SCOPE OF POSITION
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA), as a member of the rehabilitation team, has the responsibility for implementing patient treatment plans as outlined by the Occupational Therapist. The COTA works in conjunction with other team professionals to provide patient care, provide education for patients and their families, and assist with discharge planning. The COTA may be asked to assist with orientation of new employees or with the supervision of students. The COTA will also carry out other departmental duties as assigned. The COTA must have the ability to work cooperatively with doctors, other staff members, patients, and their families with dignity, courtesy, and respect. The COTA needs to be outgoing and flexible in order to adjust to all possible situations, and must show initiative and use good judgment. The COTA must pay close attention to detail and be committed to provide superior levels of care. The COTA should be committed to continuing education and upgrading of his/her skills and be willing to cross train and work in other areas as needed.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE
1. Must be a graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program .
2. Licensed to practice as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in the appropriate state or eligibility for appropriate state's licensure required.
3. CPR certification required.
4. Record of activity in state and national professional associations is desirable.
