Job description

Why Join Us?

  • We take tremendous pride in our services. We serve males and females over the age of 18 struggling with substance misuse and co-occurring physical and mental health disorders. We are an integrated care program meaning we do not only address addiction, but also co-occurring physical health, mental health, and other problems.
  • Our idyllic and tranquil setting is perfect for recovery. We are located on the beautiful Lake Tulloch waterfront in Copperopolis, CA. The facility was converted from a hotel, providing all residents with semi-private accommodations in a hotel-style setting.
  • We take care of you so you can care for our residents! We offer benefits to keep you at your best such as paid time off, insurance (health, vision, dental) paid at 70%, life insurance paid at 100%, 401k matching, and an understanding open door policy so that you are comfortable coming to us with any issue or problem you might be having.
  • We are licensed by the Department of Health Care Services, accredited by The Joint Commission, certified for Incidental Medical Services (IMS), and designated for American Society of Addiction Medicine levels of care 3.2WM, 3.1, 3.3, and 3.5. These make us one of the most highly recognized residential facilities in the state. We hold ourselves to high standards!
  • Our individualized treatment program gives counselors the freedom and flexibility to customize the individual treatment planning process and group facilitation process depending on the needs of each individual and the group as a whole. We empower you to do what you do best without overly restrictive requirements.
  • We are family owned and operated business with a team atmosphere. We do not have a corporation to answer to and can design our program the way we want. All staff are encouraged to make recommendations and suggestions to improve the program.
  • At The Lakes, you feel like you’re really making a difference. Addiction is a disease characterized by its chronicity and relapsing. While everyone will not live a perfect life free of drugs and alcohol after leaving our program, our goal is that everyone that walks through our doors has a better quality of life after treatment than they did before.

Responsibilities

  • Counselors are central to The Lakes and critical to its operations. Counselors will work with all staff, departments, and all residents in some capacity.
  • Counselors will be assigned a specific caseload but are expected to work as a team for the treatment of all residents. The size of the caseload will depend on the counselor’s capability and intensity of services required for each resident.
  • Counselors are responsible for facilitating groups on a weekly basis. Total hours of group facilitated varies by week but is generally around 5 hours per week but may be more. In general, a broad topic will be assigned, and counselors may facilitate group as desired within that broad topic. For example, a topic may be Relapse Prevention and counselors will facilitate a group around Relapse Prevention with the freedom to determine the curriculum and style utilized.
  • Counselors will complete utilization reviews or treatment updates for health plans at frequencies determined by the health plan for initial and continued authorization for services. At times, counselors may be required to complete reviews over the phone with health plans.
  • Counselors are responsible for all treatment and discharge planning for residents on their caseload. Counselors will be expected to have active goals and objectives for residents throughout treatment and a realistic exit plan including referral to needed resources at discharge.
  • There are documentation requirements that dictated when items such as Admission Assessment, Biopsychosocial, Treatment Plan, Treatment Plan Update, and Outcome Measures must be completed. Counselors are responsible for time management and to ensure all required documentation is completed in a timely manner. To do lists are provided to keep required documentation organized and easy to view and complete.
  • No day at The Lakes is ever the same. Counselors must be adaptable and flexible, independent and team workers, and ready to change plans at a moments notice. Different situations that require response will come up on a daily basis and counselors are expected to respond to such situations while time managing for other tasks that require completion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Must be certified by an approved organization in the State of California (CCAPP, CADPT, CAADC). We are seeking Certified Counselors only at this time and not Registered or Intern Counselors. Registered or Intern Counselors may apply for our Behavioral Health Tech/Residential Advisor position.
  • Our services are based around the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Criteria. Knowledge of ASAM Criteria is a plus, but not required. Training will be provided regardless.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification is a plus but not required.
  • The Lakes uses Electronic Medical Records. As such, counselors will be expected to complete a significant amount of documentation electronically and should have good computer literacy skills.
  • Counselors will respond to a variety of situations which may include medical and psychiatric emergencies (nursing staff and other trained staff members onsite will also respond). Crisis de-escalation techniques are a plus but training will be provided as needed.
  • As a healthcare facility, The Lakes must follow the vaccine mandate implemented by CDPH. Information on the mandate can be found here: https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/Pages/COVID-19/Order-of-the-State-Public-Health-Officer-Health-Care-Worker-Vaccine-Requirement.aspx.
