DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Custodial workers are involved in routine manual work in public institutional buildings and surrounding grounds. Work involves the use of custodial supplies and modern cleaning equipment and may involve the moving and lifting of heavy furniture. Work is performed in accordance with a well-established routine and is subject to inspection to meet standards of cleanliness.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• 
  Full-time employment. 7.5 hours/day; 37.5 hours/week.
• Work schedule: rotating days and weekends, with 30-minute lunch.
  • 1st shift (7:00 am - 3:00 pm) rotating days and weekends.
  • 2nd shift (12:00 pm - 8:00 pm) rotating days and weekends.
• Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• No previous experience and training required.

Additional Requirement:

• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

• Work experience as a custodian, janitor, or cleaning person, ideally in an assisted living facility, nursing home, or hospital. (Experience might include such things as cleaning restrooms; cleaning resident rooms, offices or public areas; mopping, scrubbing, dusting, sweeping, buffing, etc.)
• Work experience interacting with patients or residents while cleaning in patient/resident rooms or a dining room setting.
• Work experience cleaning bodily fluids and disposing infectious waste into proper storage areas.
• Work experience removing snow, trash and debris from sidewalks and entrance ways.
• Work experience using and mixing chemicals or solvents.
• Work experience using manual or power equipment to mop, scrub, sweep, strip, wax, and buff floors.
• Custodial work experience in an activity/recreation room, bathroom/shower or bathing room, cafeteria/dining room setting, entranceway/lobby/common space, nursing station, patient/resident rooms, pharmacy, physical therapy rooms, etc.

Legal Requirements:

• This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act:
  • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment may require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
• A conditional offer of employment may require satisfactory completion of a medical examination and drug screening.
