Southwest District Health (SWDH) is recruiting a CUSTODIAN to join the dedicated group of public health professionals in their GENERAL SUPPORT division.

As a CUSTODIAN and public health employee, you will serve an active role in improving the health of your community. As part of a small, but mighty team, you will perform heavy-duty cleaning and related maintenance work within all Southwest District Health (SWDH) owned, leased, and maintained facilities.

This

r minimum e mployee benefits are valued at $10.30 per hour for this position in addition to your base hourly rate, making our investment in you a minimum of $26.87 per hour ! Example of Duties

Candidates must be able to complete the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation and meet all the mandatory qualifications of the position.


  • Perform heavy duty cleaning in all examination rooms, clinic areas, waiting rooms, employee break room, all common areas, and restrooms, including mopping, sweeping, and vacuuming.
  • Remove waste and debris from inside and outside of SWDH facilities. Includes emptying trash, applying weed control, trimming bushes, and trees, etc.
  • Order and inventory products and compounds for cleaning jobs, mix compounds, disinfectants and sanitizing agents and apply according to manufacturer’s specifications for all SWDH facilities.
  • Maintain all soap and sanitizer dispensers to ensure they are full, functioning, and operational.
  • Inspect fire extinguishers monthly at all SWDH facilities.
  • Replace HVAC filters, light bulbs, and clean covers on light fixtures.
  • Wash windows inside and outside, dust common spaces and office jams.
  • Set up and tear down tables and chairs used for meetings and events.
  • Move furniture, appliances, and other heavy items.
  • Shovel snow from SWDH walkways, apply deicer as needed.
  • Maintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for all chemicals stored or used in SWDH facilities.
  • Make on-site visits to all SWDH facilities at least monthly to assess maintenance needs and coordinate repair and maintenance needs with supervisor.
  • Operate commercial equipment for scrubbing, buffing, shampooing, vacuuming, hand carts, snow blowers, ice melt, and pressure washers.
  • Use minor hand tools such as drills, screwdrivers, hammers, and ladders for minor repair and maintenance projects.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on cleaning equipment.
  • Physically able to climb ladders, bend, stoop, lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds, and stand and walk continuously throughout the workday.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • May be assigned to assist during public health emergencies and will be required to participate in preparedness exercises and training.

Minimum Qualifications (MQ):
Willingness to:

  • Perform duties associated with commercial cleaning, including operating industrial-type cleaning equipment such as high-speed buffers and vacuum cleaners
  • Cleaning restrooms, bath facilities, locker rooms, swimming pools, and similar facilities
  • Moving heavy items such as tables, chairs, and bleachers
  • Repairing the equipment and related devices you operate
MQ Specialty:
  • Valid Driver’s License
Ideal Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:
  • Able to communicate effectively with internal and external customers regarding their needs.
  • Ability to manage one’s time
