The Dean of Student Affairs serves as the point person under the direction of the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs. This individual is responsible for managing and leading the student services division, including the development and implementation of effective programs, processes, and systems aligned with the accomplishment of strategic goals.
The Dean of Student Affairs reports directly to the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs and maintains budgetary, personnel, and operational oversight for academic advising, admissions and registration, records, financial aid, career and personal counseling, disability/accessibility, and learning services, testing, student clubs and organizations, and athletics (eSports). Additionally, the Dean of Student Affairs will share primary responsibilities in Title IX representation, CCP administration, student relations, new student orientation, co-curricular activities, veteran services, as well as campus climate and safety.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Guiding department leaders in developing and implementing action plans for enhancing student and service satisfaction, applicant conversion, improving student retention, completion outcomes, momentum point performance, and course completion among other related priorities.
- Coordinating and providing exceptional service to students at all campus, remote locations, and virtual spaces.
- Makes and submits budget recommendations and monitors expenditures to ensure fiscal responsibility throughout the division.
- Management of assigned staff directly or through a management team. Ensures work of the team is consistent with the values, policies, and performance expectations of the College.
- Serves on institutional and external committees as appropriate to ensure regulatory compliance, superior student services, collaboration, and effectiveness that support institutional excellence.
- Maintains, improves, and disseminates information relevant to the Student Code of Conduct and other institutional or student-centered policies. Additionally, the Dean oversees all convenings relevant to the Student Code of Conduct.
- Serves as the lead Title IX Coordinator. Case Tracking: Track and report on volume and frequency of intakes, referrals, communications, and formal/informal complaints with complainants, respondents, and other parties
- Coordinates the institution’s Clery Act Compliance, serves as the institutions’ s designated Campus Survey Administrator as explained in the Department of Education correspondence.
- Leads the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT)/Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) Campus Climate Survey on Sexual Violence: facilitates the biannual campus climate survey on sexual violence
- Actively contributes to enrollment goals through direct and indirect collaboration across campus.
- Take an active role in leading efforts related to Guided Pathways and the Student Success Leadership Institute initiatives.
- Contributes to the College’s aim for excellence by maintaining a high level of professionalism and expertise through professional development, staying current on new and emerging trends, and fostering innovation among team members.
- Advance student success through support and co-curricular engagement. Support a student-centered learning environment through continued development of student activities, athletics, service learning, academic honors, and general student well-being.
- Foster students’ sense of belonging from admissions through graduation.
- Seek and participate in grant or other funding opportunities that extend or enhance services and priorities of the division.
- Support the College’s continued accreditation by taking an active role in relevant areas of the assumed practices and core criterion.
- Represent the division among like State and local organizations such as OACC and SOCHE.
- Serve at the discretion of the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs as appropriate.
Performs other related duties as required.

College business strategies, proprietary information and other non-public and sensitive college records; non-public personnel records and issues; Student and other information covered by FERPA guidelines and agreed to in the College’s FERPA Confidentiality Agreement including financial aid records, student admission records, student conduct records and student medical records.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Good office working conditions. The work requires the use of safe work practices with office equipment, and observance of general safety regulations.

Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision, with the ability to adjust focus when typing or reading a computer screen. The employee occasionally lifts up to 10 pounds.

QUALIFICATIONS
An appropriate combination of education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of an acceptable qualification is: Master’s degree in higher education or a related field with two to three years related experience in Education Administration.
Applicant must successfully pass required background checks in accordance with Southern State Community College’s policies and procedures and applicable laws.
