Position Opening: Dean of Student Life and Formation (Full-time position starting July 1, 2023)

This role exists to support and implement the Mission of Magnificat High School. As a member of the
school’s Leadership Team, the Dean of Student Life and Formation advances the holistic formation and
education of students through all aspects of student life. In close partnership with the Dean of Faculty
and Academics, the Dean of Student Life and Formation oversees the day-to-day operations of the
school. The Dean of Student Life and Formation provides proactive leadership to engage community
members in the development and implementation of student programs, activities, services, and policies
that support students’ growth and development.

Reports to: President

Classification: Exempt, Full time, 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year (Budgeted 2080 hours)

Position Summary:

  • Serves as a member of the School Leadership Team, collaborating with other administrators and
reporting to the President.
  • Works closely with the Dean of Faculty and Academics in a co-principal model to support the
holistic needs and development of students in the daily life of the school.
  • Serves as leader and resource for students, faculty and staff, parents, and families regarding
student needs.
  • Utilizes collaborative, relationship-based leadership in the creation of a positive and inclusive
school culture.
  • Serve as an institutional leader in coordinating the use of restorative practices and modeling
restorative values.
  • Sets strategic goals and objectives to meet evolving student needs in alignment with the Mission
and Values of Magnificat High School.
  • Acts in a manner consistent with the mission and teachings of the Catholic Church, the Sisters of
the Humility of Mary, and the Mission and Values of Magnificat High School.
  • Collaborates with the Vice President of Mission to integrate the Mission and Values of Magnificat
High School, Catholic Identity, and the Heritage of the Sisters of the Humility of Mary into the
daily life of the school and within all student activities, programs, and policies.
  • Works with the Senior Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and with all constituents to
promote the ongoing creation of an equitable and inclusive school community that respects the
racial, ethnic, religious, and socio-economic diversity of all students where all students feel
respected, valued, and can thrive.
  • Oversees the development, revision, and alignment of student-facing programs, activities, and
policies to ensure they support and enhance the holistic education and well-being of students
and align with Magnificat’s Mission and Values.
  • Builds strong relationships with students, faculty and staff, parents and families to address
student needs and support student growth and well-being.
  • Oversees the Athletic, Counseling, Performing Arts, and Student Life Departments.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of annual student programs, activities, school
events, and travel.
  • Oversees the co-curricular programs to facilitate the meaningful engagement of students and
the development of their leadership skills.
  • Responsible for the student handbook and oversees its implementation in the daily life of the
students.
  • Coordinates, implements, and communicates attendance policies and practices
  • Works with the President, Dean of Faculty and Academics, and Director of Facilities to develop

and implement policies and procedures related to the school safety, crisis management, and
emergency plans.

  • Reports to the President regularly and to the Board as requested.
  • Communicates regularly with the Dean of Faculty and Academics, related to the holistic
development of students and academic concerns.
  • Meets with students, parents and families, and/or faculty and staff over mutual concerns.
  • Represents the Magnificat community to educational organizations, Diocesan events, and other
local schools.
  • Serves as the school’s Title IX coordinator.
  • Leads interview process and makes recommendations for hiring of all new staff related to
Athletics, Counseling, Performing Arts, and Student Life staff.
  • Oversees the planning and execution of the annual graduation ceremony.
  • Performs other duties as requested by the President or delegated individual.

Position qualifications:

The Dean of Student Life and Formation must be a person who witnesses to the Catholic faith and
models Catholic values.

Education:
  • Must have Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership or related field.
  • Ohio Principal License preferred.
Work Experience:
  • Minimum of 7 years of demonstrated successful teaching or counseling experience, preferably at
the high school level.
  • At least 3 years of education administration and/or leadership experience in a similar setting is
preferred.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and work successfully with students, families, and colleagues
of diverse backgrounds.
  • Proven track record of success in designing and implementing student programs that promote
student development, holistic formation, and positive school culture.
  • Experience in hiring, managing, and evaluating staff preferred.

Knowledge:
A commitment to and understanding of social and emotional health of adolescents,

especially as related to girls’ education.
  • Understanding of adolescent moral development.
  • Training in restorative justice practices is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Catholic teaching and values.
  • Awareness of legal issues surrounding education and student confidentiality.
  • Sound financial knowledge as demonstrated through ability to create, manage, and analyze

departmental and project budgets.

  • Excellent computer skills including, but not limited to Microsoft Excel and Word, Google

Workspace, and social media sites.
