The Deckhand (Shipkeeper) is apart of the Operations Division. The Operations Division provides Operations and Maintenance (O&M) of the Corps' Civil Works projects. It oversees projects and programs related to water navigation, flood damage reduction, geospatial data, recreation, environmental stewardship and coastal management. The division provides guidance for developing designs, plans, and specifications for mechanical systems in support of the District's operations and maintenance program.

Duties for this role include:

  • While assigned to a vessel, works under the supervision of the Master or Small Boat Operator and follows established operating practices and techniques associated with waterway missions and floating plant maintenance.
  • Perform general maintenance work, repair and paint decks, hulls, superstructure and interior spaces of vessels.
  • Operate cargo gear and deck machinery, rigging booms, handling lines during docking, moving and towing operations, and mending lines and canvas.
  • Stand lookout, security and wheel watches.
  • Connect and disconnect hoses and pipelines.
  • Operate fishing gear and similar work.

A Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) and TWIC are required for this role prior to interview. The websites for information on how to acquire the MMC and TWIC are:

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $26.20 - $30.57 per hour
