Under direct and indirect supervision, the Insurance Coordinator will verify patient’s insurance eligibility and benefits with insurance companies. The Insurance Coordinator will be responsible for entering the patient’s benefits and updated coverage into the Open Dental Software. This position will provide support to both patients and the practices, to ensure best practices and patient care. The Insurance Team Lead will assist the Patient Services Manager in the evaluations and performance reviews of Insurance Coordinators, and distribution of workload and/or changes in protocols.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Standing 5%.

- Moderate noise levels from surrounding team members
- Business office setting
- Minimum moving requirements of 25 pounds in order to transfer supplies in office after delivery
- Constant patient and interoffice personnel interaction as this position is heavily dependent on excellent customer interaction.
- Exceptional hand dexterity and typing skills to work with standard software programs provided.
- Hearing – Must be able to hear telephonic equipment and comfortably communicate with patients and others by telephone and in person.
- Near Vision—the ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer) as view the computer screen daily
- Physically able to climb up and down two flights of stairs multiple times a day as needed RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review the schedule for all appointments and add-on appointments
- Verify patient’s eligibility and benefits by using online portals and/or calling the insurance directly
- Adding new plans and updating existing plans in the Open Dental software
- Phasing treatment to honor allowed services for appointment
- Working closely with the dental front office to clearly explain dental benefits and patient responsibility
- Maintain regular attendance and adhere to assigned work schedule and office policies.
- Maintain communication with offices and other Patient Services departments i.e. chat, email and phone
- Must always represent the practice and company in a professional, pleasant, and cooperative manner
- Knowledge of Medicaid guidelines and regulations regarding limitations and benefits
- Must be able to work both independently and cooperatively in team settings.
- Occasionally there may be some travel, by car or plane, required in order to participate in continuing education or seminars Insurance Coordinator

- Ability to type 45 words per minutes
