Green Street is seeking a journalist with a wealth of newsroom experience who is highly skilled at editing stories for content and style. The ideal candidate will have sharp rewriting and copy-editing skills and the ability to translate complex financial transactions and business models into plain English. The Deputy Editor will work closely with reporters on assignments and ensure that our scoop-oriented articles are presented accurately, concisely and in context for our sophisticated readers.
Green Street is the publisher of Real Estate Alert, Commercial Mortgage Alert and Asset-Backed Alert, leading titles in the business-to-business financial news industry. Green Street is also the leading independent research and advisory firm serving investors in public and private real estate markets in the U.S. and Europe.
Responsibilities
- Editing and rewriting complicated stories on tight deadlines.
- Coordinating with database team to generate insightful industry trend stories and graphics.
- Ensuring commitment to the organization's mandate to deliver exclusive, accurate and sophisticated news in its signature authoritative voice.
- Assisting in recruiting the highest caliber editors and reporters.
- Contributing to regular reviews of reporters’ performance.
- Remaining conversant in industry topics across all areas of coverage.
- Helping to analyze published content and reader engagement metrics for areas of potential improvement and targeted coverage.
In addition to a strong work ethic and superior track record, the Deputy Editor position requires the following skills: outstanding editorial skills; deep journalistic experience as both reporter and editor; sharp interpersonal skills, including exceptional oral communication abilities that instill staff loyalty, dedication and comradery; a high level of organization, creativity and resourcefulness; and an ability to work independently and multi-task. Familiarity with financial concepts and terminology is a plus, but not required.
The ideal candidate will have:
- A track record of at least 10 years in journalism, with experience in both editing and reporting (#Senior).
- Significant experience (3+ years) with subscription-based news products.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to credibly interact internally and externally with company executives and institutional investors.
- Authorization to work in the United States now and in the future without any visa or sponsorship requirements.
