Position Summary:

The Department of Systems Biology Information Technology (DSBIT) is a core facility at Columbia University’s Medical Campus. We manage an impressive academic computing environment devoted to research in molecular and systems biology. DSBIT’s objective is to provide high-level support for numerous Columbia University research institutes, including the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Institute for Cancer Genetics and the JP Sulzberger Columbia Genome Center.

DSBIT is searching for a dynamic individual to join our talented support team. The Desktop Administrator position provides frontline desktop support for DSBIT operations. The position requires significant customer service skills involving emails, ticketing system, phone and face-to-face communication. This is a fast-paced environment that requires strong time-management skills and a team-oriented individual with an eagerness to support researchers & their diverse needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and manage a mixture of Windows, Mac, Linux desktops, and laptops.
  • Install a wide-range of scientific applications.
  • Create and manage user accounts.
  • Configure and maintain printers, scanners, copiers, and mobile devices.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues based on user service requests and escalate complex problems to management.
  • Conduct device inventories, document technical procedures and provide A/V support for conferences.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and/or experience, plus two years of related experience.
  • Demonstrate basic technical aptitude and show an interest in learning new technologies.
  • Must be personable and have the ability to clearly communicate and follow instructions.
  • The physical ability to lift computer equipment is needed and occasional off-hour duties may be required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or similar field.
  • Professional experience supporting Windows & Mac computers and Microsoft Office in an enterprise environment.
  • Knowledge of Active Directory, networking, systems security, virus removal and exposure to HIPAA regulations.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $58,500.00 - $65,000.00 per year
