Job Summary
Analyzes construction documents and supplier/subcontractor proposals to prepare material and labor estimates and proposals with an emphasis on structural steel, but also including one or more of the following: structural precast, reinforcing steel, concrete pipe, and other materials.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
Abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely.
Reads and understands architectural/structural drawings and specifications.
Produces erection drawings, production piece detail drawings and material drawings for structural and miscellaneous steel products sold, checking dimensions of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to whole structure or project.
Utilizes knowledge of three-dimensional modeling and detailing software (SDS/2), other various computer programs, engineering practices, production practices, mathematics, building materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings.
Makes any adjustments or changes necessary or desired.
Implements American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) standard practices for fabrication, welding, bolting and paint.
Consults with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and resolve issues.
Communicates with other individuals in the organization to obtain support and commitment to the production of detailed drawings.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and or Experience
- Two-year Associates Degree in Architectural Drafting or related college experience required plus two to four years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Previous structural detailing experience is required.
- Must have knowledge and working experience of standard AISC connections.
- Must be proficient at reading and understanding prints and specifications and be able to transfer information off the contract documents and governing codes.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel.
The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
The noise level in the work environment is usually very quiet.
Normal work hours are 8-5, Monday through Friday, with some weekends—work hours are required to meet production standards and goals.
Overtime may be required based, on business need.
This is a tobacco free facility and campus.
