Join our growing team! Southern Maine Agency on Aging is seeking a full-time strategic, energetic, experienced, and hands-on Development & Communications Director.
Reporting to and in partnership with the CEO, SMAA’s Development & Communications Director will spearhead development and communication efforts at an exciting time of organizational growth. The Director will have the opportunity to create, build and implement the annual development plan as well as future strategic plans to generate philanthropic revenue. The candidate will work in collaboration with the Marketing & Communications Specialist to manage and oversee the communications annual plan with key metrics as well as work with the Marketing & Communications Specialist in developing communications strategies, goals, and tactics, oversee the centralized processes and procedures for communications and marketing and review and approve print and electronic marketing materials.
The Director is responsible for building positive relationships with current and prospective donors, and drawing up plans to ensure annual targets are met. An organized, proactive leader, the Director will take SMAA’s fundraising team into its next phase of growth and expansion. SMAA’s annual giving revenue is expected to double by 2025 and triple by 2027. The Director will ignite and sustain a sophisticated culture of philanthropy among the Board, Advisory Council, Staff, and Volunteers of SMAA.
The ideal candidate will have proven leadership skills, will be a collegial and entrepreneurial team player with a track record of raising significant philanthropic revenue, and will not be afraid to roll up their sleeves to get the job done.
Candidate should be comfortable working remotely but also be able to report to our Biddeford, Maine office 2 - 3 times a week
Qualifications
- An undergraduate degree from an accredited 4-year college or university.
- A minimum of 5 - 7 years of fundraising experience in a professional position.
- Knowledge of the utilization of sophisticated integrated information systems (i.e. Raisers Edge) is also required.
- Membership in a professional fundraising association is expected of a professional. Baseline certification in fundraising, the CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Professional), would be a Plus.
- Adept leader and project manager.
- Proven success in development for a large nonprofit. Experience running capital campaigns and successful fundraising from multiple donor channels.
- Experience in planning, leading, and managing development projects, including coordinating with peers to achieve desired outcomes, and tracking and reporting on progress to the Board of Directors.
- Takes initiative and actively seeks to deepen current donor relationships and forge new ones.
- Skilled in creating powerful, compelling written and oral communications for fundraising. Ability to convey complex ideas through brief, simple materials. Experience and credibility when presenting materials to external audiences.
- Effective at working with others to reach common goals and objectives.
- Skilled at establishing and cultivating strong relationships with peers, across different levels of the organization and externally.
