Diesel Equipment Mechanic

JOB SUMMARY:

Cobalt Equipment is looking for an experienced diesel mechanic that can troubleshoot, diagnose, adjust, maintain and repair, electrical, gas and diesel problems, including some fabrication and can always maintain a positive attitude. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • None.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Repairs and maintains construction equipment of various types and sizes from light-duty to OTR trucks and from light-duty to heavy-duty operating equipment such as Light Towers, Forklifts and Generators.
  • Advanced troubleshooting on electrical, hydraulic, ignition, pneumatic systems, diesel and gas engines as well as drive trains
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs, using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance and repairs on motorized equipment, including gas and diesel-powered engines;
  • Remove and replace defective parts by dismantling devices using hand and power tools.
  • Test repaired equipment to ensure proper performance when used.
  • May fabricate, weld and cut parts, using arc-welding/ wire feed and flame cutting equipment.
  • Perform DOT Inspections.
  • Perform related and other duties as requested.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.
  • Keep accurate records of repairs and PM schedules.
  • Ability to work safely and follow established Company Safety Policies.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Ability to travel to locations within the Bay Area and Central Valley.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Working knowledge of the theory and operation of internal combustion engines and drive train components; all components of a motorized vehicle.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • Ability to use a wide range of personal hand tools.
  • Must have a manual-hand-finger dexterity.
  • Must have eye-hand-foot coordination.
  • Must be able to lift and/or transport +50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in internal/external environments that may be in harsh weather conditions, confined workspaces; heights, such as on ladders and equipment; high levels of noise.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Required: Current medical card.

EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • 2 years minimum of relevant experience
  • Experience with diesel engines, DOT, and hydraulics
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Required: Valid Class C Driver's License and a clean driving record
  • Desired: Class A Driver's License

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently.
  • Must be able to work inside and outside in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to stand and walk up to eight hours per day.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including nights, holidays, weekends and extended overnight stays when our emergency services are needed.
  • Ability to twist, turn, bend, lift, kneel, climb and stand.
