Job description
Description:

Do you enjoy helping others to live their best lives? Cerebral Palsy Association of the North Country seeks individuals for the Direct Support Professional (DSP) role in our Day and Community Habilitation Program. This program serves middle-school through adult-aged individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The DSP works within the people’s homes and community to provide individualized personal care, mentorship, and stability and security to the people they support.

The services the DSP provides to each individual are tailored to that person's needs to enhance their quality of life. Services may include picking individuals up at their homes and accompanying/assisting them in running errands or in participating in community activities, assisting individuals in sorting through choices and encouraging and supporting problem-solving and coping skills, assisting with and teaching individuals daily living skills such as personal hygiene, nutrition, domestic skills, and budgeting skills, and completing the required documentation, to name a few. This position does not include handling medications or transporting individuals to medical appointments.

*** We are particularly looking to serve individuals in the Potsdam/Winthrop/Bombay/Massena region. ***

Requirements:

The successful candidate will be empathetic, hardworking, and someone who takes initiative in their work. They will serve as a role model of positive and productive behaviors and deal with individuals, families, coworkers, supervisors, and community members respectfully and honestly. They will follow policies and protocols, participate in required training, and demonstrate flexibility in scheduling. They will also have sharp attention to detail and will always protect individual privacy and confidentiality. A high school diploma is required, as is a New York state driver’s license with two years of driving experience, an acceptable motor vehicle abstract, a reliable personal vehicle, and appropriate automobile insurance.

This full-time position may require some evening or weekend work based on the needs of the people served. The position is based and will sometimes need to report to our Canton main office, but individuals may be primarily based from home (for time spent completing documentation). Most of your work hours will be spent supporting individuals in their homes or community. If you feel you have a personal mission to serve and help others reach their goals, this job will meet your expectations and more.

*** Salary: $16.72/hour. A $1,000 sign-on bonus is also available (conditions apply). Mileage is reimbursed. ***
