Director of Early Childhood Programs

Downeast Community Partners is seeking a Director of Early Childhood Programs, based in the Ellsworth, Maine. The role is responsible for managing a $4M budget and a team of 65 employees delivering critical early childhood programs to families in Washington and Hancock County (Head Start, Early Head Start, Child Care, Family Futures Downeast, and the Child and Adult Care Food Program).
Requirements of the Director of Early Childhood Programs:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Social Work, or Human Services or significant early childhood course work with another related degree.
· 3+ years of experience with responsibility for managing early childhood development programs; Head Start experience strongly preferred.
· Strong understanding of operational processes for effective program management as well as ability to bring strategic perspective to program development and management.
· Excellent leadership skills and ability to effectively support staff development, wellness, adaptability, and morale.
· Ability to bring creative solutions to delivering high quality programs within funding guidelines, recruiting and retaining staff, and supporting staff as they work with families experiencing multiple challenges.
· Must be able to pass background checks.
· Ability to commute to Ellsworth office and travel occasionally to program sites in service area which extends to Machias.
Benefits of the Job:
· Full-time, exempt position with pay between $75,000 and $90,000 per year, depending on experience.

Responsibilities of the Director of Early Childhood Education:
· Manages and leads a team of experienced and highly skilled subject matter experts and center coordinators to deliver programming that meets program outcome goals.
· Manages early childhood development programs and ensures that the organization implements best practices, complies with all applicable standards (e.g. Head Start Performance Standards and State licensing requirements), and ensures timely submission of annual contract renewal applications and required reporting.
· Develops, implements and oversees budgets for programs and demonstrates prudent stewardship of program resources.
· Builds strong relationships with school districts providing collaborative pre-k programming and with other community partners.
· Oversees the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
