About the Role

Yieldstreet is looking for a Director of External Reporting and Technical Accounting to focus on building, implementing and driving excellence in both areas. In this role you will be responsible for the financial systems design and implementation needed to ensure Yieldstreet's adherence to all accounting standards so this person must have a deep understanding of the inner workings of both. Additionally, you will have responsibilities related to the preparation and filing of annual and quarterly U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) financial statements as well as the related internal controls. You will also manage other complex financial accounting and analysis relating to GAAP. You will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer.

This person will work with cross-functional teams to review earnings and prepared remarks, research and analyze technical accounting issues, and prepare monthly reports to senior management on disclosure analysis related to accounting issues, all with a strong sense of ownership and urgency. This role will be responsible for conducting detailed reviews and analysis of financial results, researching the issuance of recently issued accounting pronouncements, and supporting the determination of impact to the company.

What you'll do:

  • Create, develop, and supervise a high performing finance team through empowerment and development of direct reports
  • Lead the preparation and analysis of a wide variety of financial and other external reports and the supervision of the internal controls related to financial reporting. Preparing and reviewing footnotes to the financial statements and related supporting documentation to footnotes.
  • Research and provide direction on technical accounting issues, including revenue recognition, stock-based compensation, acquisition accounting, and consolidation.
  • Reviewing external communications (earnings reports, prepared remarks, and investor presentations), to ensure consistency with previously filed financial information.
  • Supporting the quarterly and annual external reviews and audit performed by our independent accountants, supporting segments, and individual business units with various technical accounting matters.
  • Various detailed financial analysis of major income statement and balance sheet components, including but not limited to, Revenue Recognition, Equity compensation, Consolidation, Business Combination and valuation of financial instruments.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual reporting calendar and ensure commitments are met timely
  • Plan the quarterly drafting and review cycle, plus lead quarterly meetings with senior management
  • Develop an in-depth understanding and analysis of significant transactions to assess their impact for SEC disclosure purposes
  • Monitor the activities of all accounting standard setting bodies to ensure timely identification of emerging accounting pronouncements to ensure compliance with all GAAP and disclosure requirements.
  • Research complex accounting issues and provide guidance in executing their impacts to organization
  • Compile and review the supporting schedules, content and notes for the external financial statements and the MD&A
  • Oversee the month-end close process including, journal entries, account reconciliations and submission of Corporate results
  • Responsibility for certain areas of accounting e.g. stock options
  • Liaise with external auditors to support the quarterly review and annual audit process
  • Involved in Global Consolidation of Financial Statements.
  • Assist internal and external tax preparers with provision and return information
  • Develop policies and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP

What you'll need:

  • Big 4 Public Accounting experience
  • 10-12 years total Accounting experience w/ 3-5 years in a Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting role within a large organization, preferably an SEC registrant
  • Deep understanding of both internal controls for a PCAOB registrant as well as the financial systems design and implementation to facilitate
  • Must have strong technical accounting skills and up-to-date knowledge of the latest accounting standards including working knowledge of revenue recognition and lease accounting standards.
  • Comprehensive knowledge within SEC reporting, US GAAP, and technical accounting related areas.
  • Experience preparing detailed written reports and technical analysis and synthesizing complex information into cohesive, clear narratives
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience researching and documenting disclosure guidance and the accounting treatment of issues
  • Experience with SOX 404 and internal control over financial reporting
  • Ability to work well independently as well as collaboratively with a cross-functional team of diverse individuals
  • Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills and creativity with the ability to craft and analyze options and make specific recommendations and action plans that will enhance the company's and/or team's overall objectives and goals
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written when working with all levels of management and employees, clients, external vendors and other business associates.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills, with a willingness to support the learning and development of peers and team members
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and adept at handling change.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $150,000 - $200,000 (Actual salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) Compensation package also includes generous bonus, benefits and equity.
