General Summary:
We seek a forward-focused leader to serve as Director of Operations and Student Advancement for the Samuel W. Mason Pilot School. This leader will assist in cultivating a positive school culture by working directly with the Principal, administrative team, and teachers to develop effective school-based systems for teaching teams and student support. We seek to foster a welcoming, student-centered teaching and learning culture that will propel the Mason’s long-term growth toward becoming a school with thriving student achievement.

Responsibilities:

Operational Leadership - Academic:
    Manage the application of the Code of Conduct to ensure due process
    Supervise the implementation of responsive behavioral/SEL data cycles to target student needs
    Prioritize and effectively manage competing tasks and responsibilities.
    Advocate for components that are critical for equitable and joyful culture
    Execute a vision among all stakeholders that fosters professional development of the staff, maximizes the student’s experience at the school and brings faculty, parents and administration together in an effective way
    Facilitate a decision-making philosophy of leadership that empowers teachers and engages and increases parental involvement
    Foster a culture of achievement amongst staff and students by modeling the principles of Responsive Classroom
    In partnership with the administrative team, execute a vision among all stakeholders that fosters professional development of the staff, maximizes the student’s academic and cultural experience at the school and brings faculty, parents and administration together in an effective way
    Create and maintain systems and organization of professional development that will improve communication and cohesion across content and grade-level teams
    Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a rigorous, joyful, and safe environment
    Sustain a calm, reasonable approach, and communicate effectively in stressful or problematic situations
    Maintain and update student data systems that will support the planning of effective acceleration and intervention opportunities for students
Operational Leadership: Building Wide Support
    Oversee operations of middle school systems and structures to ensure equitable, student-centered decision-making, effectiveness and efficiency
    Collaborate with the leadership team and teacher leaders to support our school Transformation efforts
    Set up systems (call logs, translation services, and other operational supports) for those personnel in the school to successfully engage families and stakeholders
    Manage and align school community on school culture expectations
    Create and maintain growth plans for students who need special attention, in partnership with the principal and student support team
    Review data and assist in developing strategies for decreasing number of behavioral incidents
    Reflect on successes and areas of growth around all areas of teaching; seek to improve performance; receive feedback eagerly
    Create and sustain successful operational systems for successful building-wide transitions
    Performs other responsibilities as requested by the Principal
Management and Leadership:
    Collaborate with and co-plan/facilitate (with teacher-leaders) the school’s Instructional Leadership and Grade Level Leadership Teams
    Collaborate with Principal and Transformation Coach to set vision, direction, and cohesion of both adult and student learning communities
    Collaborate with Leadership Team and Family Liaison to ensure a safe, welcoming school environment for our families and that our school is an institution that can meet their needs

Required Qualifications:
    Successful work in a school serving low income and ELL students, with significant results in closing student achievement gaps.
    Exceptional organizational, communication (writing and speaking), public relations, and interpersonal skills
    Demonstrates knowledge of the common core shifts and priority standards
    Displays a high-level proficiency in the use and application of educational technologies like Aspen as well as Google Drive and Excel
    A profound commitment to equity that assures academic excellence for all children and creates an open, respectful, and inclusive child-centered environment for children with special needs, their educators and their parents.
    In depth cross-cultural experience, and the ability to relate that experience to educational philosophy, cultural awareness, increased problem-solving skills and school community-building
    Understanding of the critical role of collaboration among teachers at a classroom level and school level
    Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment

Preferred Qualifications:
    7-10 years of school-based experience (ideally both instructional and operational).

NOTE: School-based managerial employees will work 223 days between July 1st and June 30th each year. The 223 day work-year will include the 180 days in which school is in session, and the additional days will be determined by the employee and the principal or headmaster of the school.

School-based managerial employees are not eligible for vacation time or compensatory time. In the event of school cancellation due to snow or inclement weather, school-based managerial employees need not report to work.
