Job Description:

To provide overall leadership and direction to the areas and facilities required for the manufacture of prime products and components. To provide the vision for and facilitate the movement to maintain a best in class product manufactured and assembled in the facilities for a Division.

The Director of Operations role will be the highest manufacturing position within a Division and will report to a Vice President or General Manager. This position will be responsible for the Operations of several facilities within a Division, with ultimate responsibility and accountability for Manufacturing Production Execution. The incumbent will be a representative on the Corporate Manufacturing Council.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to :

  • Develops the annual business plan for all operations sections based on prime product, component, and parts demand. This is including contract manufacturers as the primary interface. Makes necessary manpower adjustments by determining to hire full time or temporary employees, increasing overtime, etc. Balance operations manpower resources within the facility as a function of production schedules, ensuring compliance to the business plan. Makes decision requiring a good understanding of shop processes and plant capability. Manages the balancing of manpower inefficiencies with inventory impact to meet production schedule requirements.

  • Accountable for the procurement of rough and interplant material; storage and distribution of material in a predetermined quality, quantity and timeliness; and the fabrication, machining, maintenance, assembly, test, paint and shipment of quality products to the customer in a cost effective and timely manner. Provides direction for the development of quality and productivity improvements on the factory floor. Manages the timely and cost effective product manufacture along with the requisition of direct material and the purchase of indirect material.

  • Manages and assures rough and interplant material quality and on time fabrication, machining, assembly, painting and shipping of prime product and parts to customers. May direct the negotiations, commercial settlements and supply agreements with rough material suppliers. Provides strategy to resolve supplier delays and to direct product reliability negotiations.

  • Control operations within all company manufacturing facilities; apply CPS and 6 Sigma methodologies to optimize throughput and efficiency while minimizing waste and ensuring company expectations for quality and delivery are met on time and in full.

  • Position should have good working knowledge of labor rules and regulations.

  • Provides direction for the development of quality and productivity improvements on the factory floor and gives direction to ensure timely, cost effective manufacture of prime products and components.

  • Provides leadership in the development and improvement of quality strategy and other strategic initiatives and aligning manufacturing capital with the capacity requirements and profitability goals. Also provides leadership toward the effective management and attainment of operating budget and is accountable for the P&L plan and support for achieving NPI plans.

  • Provides for the development and improvement of staff by providing expanding experiences, delegating responsibility and providing necessary guidance in solving problems.

  • The position manages a functional area, business unit or subsidiary through subordinate managers and professionals.

  • The incumbent provides direction, focus, motivation, and encouragement for subordinates. The position is responsible for all personnel issues and performance evaluation of subordinates.

Basic Requirements:

  • Requires a college or university degree or equivalent experience and additionally, twelve + years of progressively responsible Supply Chain/Manufacturing experience.

  • Will have to possess knowledge of CPS processes and tools.

  • Must complete the CPS Operations/Facility Manager functional curriculum.

  • Analytical and conceptual thinking are essential together with excellent interpersonal skills in order to deal with sensitive issues, develop others, or persuade others inside and outside the organization to take specific actions.

  • Must be results and efficiency focused while still demonstrating a high degree of people caring.

  • Extensive experience in logistics and the entire internal/external value chain.

  • Extensive experience with external suppliers – including supplier development, management and negotiation

  • End-to-end Lean Experience

  • Experience Managing Internal and External Suppliers and Customers

  • Experience Managing Global Operations, Cultures and Teams with Diverse Backgrounds

  • Facility Management experience

  • Order to Delivery leadership experience

  • Facility layout / capital asset management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • International experience preferred

  • The locations for this position include Mossville, IL, Michigan, Illinois, Dallas, TX, Houston, TX, Atlanta, GA.

  • Domestic relocation assistance IS available for this position

  • Up to 50% travel (The position is required to travel frequently; up to a full week a month.)
