The Director of Organizational Development and Training will foster strategic partnerships across institutional units and roles, providing tools and strategies to assess institutional effectiveness, identify professional development needs and facilitate capacity building opportunities that create and grow inclusive and high performing teams.
A high degree of personal credibility stemming from the person’s ability to exercise integrity, sound judgment, objectivity and confidentiality is essential. Travel for professional development or to represent department or university business is occasionally required.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities Include:
- Create and deliver cohort learning, leadership development programming and facilitate team/department retreats for planning and effective change management.
- Remain current in the field, identifying a range of learning options and modalities for employees (in-person workshops, online, etc.).
- Maintaining a robust, diverse, and relevant training and educational catalogue that addresses needs including but not limited to compliance, employee skills building, onboarding, mentoring, supervisory and management skills, and leadership development.
- Manage the recruitment process for all professional staff and faculty positions.
- Oversee the onboarding processes for all employee classifications.
- Serve as the point person for faculty immigration processing.
- Oversee training and reporting on state and SUNY compliance mandates (i.e., ethics training, annual compliance etc.)
- Works with HRDI staff to critically examine practices and processes and help identify improvements to our practice and delivery of services to the campus and with partner offices to enhance our practice and delivery of services.
- Manage vendor relations with various service and software providers that support HRDI processes (i.e., applicant tracking software, immigration counsel).
- Perform service on committees and other similar or associated duties as required or directed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or Bachelor’s degree in a related field combined with progressive and demonstrated experience in Organizational Development. Master’s degree preferred.
- At least six years progressive experience in Human Resources in a supervisor or leadership position.
- Effective at designing and delivering training to a range of audiences.
- Experience working with a diverse workforce and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion principles in organizational culture.
- Experience in a higher education setting is preferred. Knowledge of administration within collective bargaining environment is also a plus.
- Ability to build strong relationships with leadership, management, faculty and staff through a highly consultative, collaborative problem solving approach, positioning HR as a credible resource for various constituencies.
- Effective project management skills.
- Experience with software-based management (learning systems, relational databases, report writing)
- Ability to effectively utilize the Microsoft suite of office products.
