Job Description
Primary Responsibilities
The Director/VP of Software Product Management is primarily responsible for organizing, supervising, hiring, and managing the product team. This role will also be responsible for coordinating and successfully integrating outsourced development teams. This role will require frequent communication and presentation to the executive team.
Skills & Competencies
  • Bachelor’s degree in Product/Project Management or related field or equivalent work experience required.
  • 10+ years in a Project Manager or Product Management role, at least 5 working with software development teams.
  • Previous experience working with Software teams.
  • Excellent knowledge of Jira or other project management systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Previous experience working with outsourced contractors/offshore development teams.
  • Previous Engineering management considered a plus.
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail oriented, with the ability to produce high quality work in a deadline-oriented environment and an ability to multi-task.
  • High level critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a high volume, data entry and processing work environment, where applicable.
  • Experience working in a work schedule environment, weekends and holidays, based on business needs.
Essential Job Functions
  • Manage other product managers and various engineering related roles.
  • Successfully build the Product Management processes around the firm’s proprietary software systems to achieve successful project outcomes.
  • Provide roadmaps and guidance on engaging and integrating external software development teams.
  • Develop best practices for project management and software related processes (such as Scrum/Agile).
  • Work closely with Head of Engineering to develop roadmap for projects and assess resources and budgets to achieve company goals.
  • Meet and collaborate in-person on a fairly frequent basis with the firm’s various business stakeholders
Key Metrics & Responsibilities
  • Completion of 95% of the planned sprint points per cycle on a trailing 12-month basis
  • Increase in sprint points completed per cycle by 30% on a trailing 12-month basis within 1 year of start date.
  • Manage project and product goals and stay within estimated budgets.
  • Improved efficiency within both internal and external development teams as measured by accelerating quality deliverables.
  • Accurate reporting of progress and successful execution of monthly/weekly reporting to relevant teams.
  • Increased communication across the company of what the team has completed, is working on, and will be working on for the near to midterm future.
Physical Requirements
  • Strong preference for person to be located in or near Charleston, SC for in-person collaboration. Alternatively, willingness and ability to travel to Charleston, SC on a relatively frequent basis as needed
  • Capable of working extended hours, to include evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
  • Able to see well enough to read faint or partially obscured writing or printing, with corrective lenses if needed.
  • Must be able to speak English in a clear and understandable voice so that various types of communications may be conducted with people of various levels of education and capabilities, to include the exchange and receipt of information over the telephone.
  • Position involves sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, shoving, lifting, carrying and moving objects that can weigh up to 25 lbs. This movement can occur throughout the day. Must also be able to climb several flights of stairs if necessary.
  • Must be able to interact with all types of individuals, be mentally alert, detail oriented, and with good reasoning skills.
  • Must have finger dexterity for typing/using a keyboard.
Environmental Requirements
  • Must be able to work on more than one assignment at a time with frequent interruptions, changes and delays. Must be able to remain focused and work effectively, efficiently, and cheerfully under such circumstances. For safety reasons, employee must remain alert to working conditions and aware of safety, health, and environmental concerns.
  • Must be able to work effectively and cheerfully in an environment which may be stressful due to adversarial situations resulting from the proper performance of duties.
