Your Role:


The Director, Warehouse & Distributions Operations has regional responsibilities encompassing overall warehouse and distribution logistics for Straumann US & Canadian operations. The position will provide strategic and transformational leadership for warehouse and logistics functions in the assigned areas of responsibility. The Director, Warehouse & Distribution Operations knows “what good looks like” and has implemented similar transformations and understands the road to move towards excellence. This includes planning for warehouse layout and design, order processing process and sufficient inventory level/ back-order management. All the while the Director, Warehouse & Distribution Operations will be expected to ensure the continued import and export of a wide range of products, resolving challenges as they arise.


Job Responsibilities:


This position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:


Warehouse Operations


  • Direct all outbound warehouse operations (picking, packing, and shipping) for Straumann Group North America and Canada.
  • Responsible inventory planning, warehousing, inbound & outbound transportation, import & export as well as reverse logistics (return & recall management), re-labeling, re-packaging & destructions management as needed.
  • Minimize errors in operations, hereunder especially outbound shipping.
  • Leads continuous improvement program and tracks performance.
  • Direct plans, projects, and activities involving stock cycle counting and physical inventory activities are performed according to guidelines, procedures, F&A planning, and statutory closing calendar.
  • Develop and maintain the relevant control activities in an ISO certified and FDA regulated medical device distribution environment.
  • Work with multiple stakeholders at HQ in Switzerland as well as manufacturing sites in other countries to resolve import and export issues, product detentions, etc. as they arise.


Operational Excellence


  • Direct warehouse automation, implementation, and daily operation/maintenance.
  • Develop integrated Packaging automation systems.
  • Assessing existing and future requirements of the organization in determining the optimal logistic strategy and warehouse footprint.
  • Develop and monitor department budget as required.
  • Partners with NAM Product Management to ensure adequate inventory levels at product launch and throughout product lifecycle.
  • Ensure as the customer focused point of contact that all customer complaints and opportunities for improvement are managed, reinforcing clarity, consistency, and responsiveness.
  • Manage 3rd party shipping carrier relationship.


People (25%)


  • Responsible for directing and managing the staffing, training, performance management and career development of associates, and developing and monitoring department goals.
  • Hires, supervises, schedules, and trains warehouse personnel. Works with temp employee agencies as needed to meet short-term labor demands.


Management Responsibilities:


This position manages the following positions on a daily basis.


  • Direct:


    • NAM Warehouse Lead
    • Manager, Warehouse and Logistics (Canada)
    • Logistics, Operations Supervisor
    • Digital Operations Warehouse Supervisor
    • Supply Chain Quality Analyst


  • Indirect:


    • 50-60 Various Supply Chain, OPEX, and Warehouse employees (US)
    • 10-15 Various Supply Chain, OPEX, and Warehouse employees (Canada)


Physical Attributes:


  • Ability to observe and hear warning signs and signals within all areas of the company.
  • Ability to stand, walk and/or sit up to 10 hours a day (with periodic breaks allowed).
  • Occasionally push/pull up to 50 lbs. and lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Lift up to 20 lbs. (several times an hour).
  • Turn one’s body, bend down, squat, move hands and upper extremities frequently through the day.
  • Wear protective eye wear when required.
  • Wear protective hearing gear when required.
  • Wear toe protection when required.


Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree required, preferred within Supply Chain, Business Management, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years’ experience with a demonstrated emphasis on planning and forecasting in a global organization and working with employees, vendors and complicated processes and procedures in supply chain or manufacturing operations field.
  • 5+ years of experience managing 50+ employees.
  • 5+ years of experience in building & managing semi-automated warehouse/production systems.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of end-to-end supply chain management including MRP, DRP, ERP, forecasting, inventory management.
  • Experience in working with SAP MM/SD.
  • Experience in working in a fast-paced FDA/ISO regulated environment.
  • Medical device or related industry experience.
  • Proven Project Management Experience.
  • Lean and Six Sigma experience
  • Experience with warehouse automation, pick-to-light
  • Demonstrated successful progression of leadership roles and responsibilities.
  • Excellent and proactive communication skills.
  • Cultivate a broad network of relationships with key internal and external constituents.
  • Ability to meet aggressive deadlines, manage multiple projects and locations simultaneously and to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, individual, and team-oriented work environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, able to engage and influence team and external partners.
  • Strong ability to create management reporting to detail current status and future plans.
  • Ability to work independently, efficiently, and effectively under extreme time constraints and deliver results by critical deadlines.
  • Extensive Import Export of regulated products required (FDA related experience preferred).
