The role:
We are filling two dispatcher positions! One permanent and one limited duration. As a dispatcher, you will monitor the operation of the transportation system, respond to incidents impacting the system and coordinate transportation related communications and services internally and externally. The goal of this recruitment is to fill this position at a transportation telecommunications specialist 1 level. However, we encourage candidates who meet the minimum qualifications for a transportation services representative 1 ($3,022 - $4,465) to apply, as we may consider underfilling the position until the selected candidate meets the minimum qualifications for a transportation telecommunications specialist 1. Underfill training will not exceed three years.
The limited duration appointment is expected to end on or before 4/1/24. Limited duration appointments are benefits eligible and have a designated maximum length of service. This position has the potential to become permanent.

A day in the life:

Monitor transportation system conditions, radio communications and weather conditions using software and equipment.

Implement incident and weather related response plans.
-
Coordinate with other agency dispatch centers, transportation operation centers, crews, law enforcement and the Oregon Emergency Response System.

Receive, input and notify crews about maintenance or repairs.

Implement detour routes including dispatching of staff and equipment.

Periodically monitor and test device status and the operation of backup systems.

Regularly review and maintain familiarity with statewide and regional standard operating guidelines, emergency operations plans and TOC systems.

Will require being restricted to workstations for long periods sometimes in a close working area.

Continual and consistent alertness and attention to monitoring and answering a variety of technical equipment including a multiline phone system and a multichannel radio system.

Must be able to handle multiple conflicting priorities that sometimes involve life threatening decisions and communicating with the public often under confusing or crisis conditions.

Will be required to work day shift, swing shift, flexible shifts, alternating shifts, nights, weekends and extended hours due to emergencies or increased temporary workload.

What we need for a transportation telecommunications specialist 1:
Two years of public contact experience that includes gathering, relaying, and providing information to others AND evaluating activities or incidents, and determining an appropriate course of action. One year of this experience must include receiving and dispatching emergency requests using radio equipment, telephone, and/or computer.
Note: Successful completion of a Certified Emergency Communications Course may substitute for the one year of specialized experience.
What we need for a transportation services representative 1 (underfill):
Two years of public contact/customer service experience which involved dealing with the public in-person or by phone providing information about services/programs or explaining and/or applying laws, rules, regulations/procedures; AND experience or training using computers to retrieve and input data.
Note: Completion of an associate's degree will substitute for one year of the public contact experience.

The successful candidate must become LEDS certified and maintain current certification within 90 days of hire.

This position requires a typing test along with a proficiency test if invited for an interview.

You must be able to complete a “CritiCall” test, which we will administer, if selected to interview.
