The Literacy and Mathematics Team within the Division for Academic Excellence is seeking applicants for an Early Childhood Literacy Education Consultant position. This position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate and coordinate efforts, energies, and initiatives with internal teams and specialists as well as external organizations and agencies across the state and the nation. The incumbent provides statewide educational leadership across the diversity of learning environments throughout Wisconsin, ensures educational equity related to strengthening early literacy, has a positive impact on students and empowering educators, and can take advantage of professional growth and development opportunities. This position has the option to work 100% remote with a requirement that the employee is expected to have access to secure high speed internet. The position is headquartered at 125 S. Webster Street in Madison, WI, and employees are required to report there on their first day of employment. In addition, the employee may need to report to their headquarter location as operational needs require. Mileage reimbursement for traveling to the employee’s headquarters is not provided. Under the general supervision of the Literacy and Mathematics Team Director, this position provides PK-5 (i.e., pre-kindergarten through 5th grade level) state level leadership to districts for DPI priorities in standards, instruction, and assessment for early learning in literacy with an emphasis on marginalized student groups (students of poverty, students with disabilities, students of color, students with language learning needs, etc.).

These responsibilities are accomplished by working as a collaborative member of the Literacy and Mathematics Team, the DPI, and with individuals representing universities, school districts, and CESAs and organizations representing the reading education profession.

Depending on qualifications, the salary will be between $30.00 - $40.80 per hour ($62400 - $84864 per year) in accordance with the provisions of the current Compensation Plan. This position is in pay schedule 13, range 02. A one-year probationary period will be required.

This position offers excellent benefits. The State of Wisconsin is a qualifying employer for the federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.

• Providing leadership in the implementation of PK-5 English Language Arts standards (e.g., serving on an advisory team making recommendations to school board, serving on a leadership team charged with interpretation/implementation, providing professional development, etc.); and

• Developing or implementing an improvement strategy related to reading achievement for students from marginalized groups; and/or
