About the Opportunity
PBS North Carolina is seeking three part-time, temporary Education Specialists to support the PBS NC Education Services team's mission to build awareness of, and equitable access to, the robust educational assets that PBS offers for the holistic education ecosystem. The Education Services team strives to equip entities, engaging students, and empowering educators.
The Education Specialist is responsible for extending the reach of the Education Services department across the state of North Carolina. This role is intended for an educator currently serving North Carolina's learners and families, must have classroom experience, and familiarity with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and Common Core Standards, and/or the North Carolina Foundations of Early Learning and Development. The Education Specialist will be expected to develop workshops that demonstrate the effective use of PBS educational resources in the classroom and among other adult learners and to show innovative and creative ways ignite learning for all learners. Workshops will be delivered to classroom teachers in settings ranging from 25 to over 100 people.
The initiatives the Education Specialist will be providing support with include but are not limited to the following, education conferences, education workshops, consulting, lesson plan development, and blog posts. Additionally, this role is critical to our ability to effectively serve communities across the entire state of North Carolina and adhere to the mission and goals of the Education Services and the overall strategic plan for the Engagement pillar at PBS North Carolina.
Essential duties will include, but are not limited to: Developing and implementing training, development, informational, and/or educational programs, courses, curricula, training resources, lesson plans, materials, and visual aids. Identifying areas of program alignment with other education initiatives. Fostering community relationships to ensure that PBS NC Education programs and services are reflective and supporting of communities. Scheduling and facilitating education meetings. Working collaboratively with the Education & Innovation team to implement and develop strategies that support education initiatives. Collecting of survey data to be shared with program evaluation partner. Other duties as assigned that further the overall mission of PBS NC
UNC System employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

Minimum Education, Experience, and Skills
Master's degree in education, special education, instructional design, educational technology, educational media, or related discipline with coursework in curriculum development or learning theory; or a Bachelor's degree in the assigned discipline and two years of experience in teaching, educational testing, or instructional design and curriculum development; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Experience in researching, planning, organizing, promoting, and implementing educational programs.- Experienced classroom teacher.
- Experience developing and presenting strategies and action plans.
- Excellent organization and project management skills required, with ability to work on multiple projects at once.
- Exceptional organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
- Strong, demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and virtual communications platforms (i.e., PowerPoint, Zoom, Microsoft Teams)
Required Competencies
Ability to advise and collaborate with teachers, parents, and caregivers.
Ability to apply knowledge and understanding of program culture, issues, and work relationships to address situations. Ability to share knowledge and critical thinking processes.
Ability to maintain and enhance professional relationships to increase credibility for building support and reaching consensus when explaining and interpreting program policies and procedures within assigned area(s).
Ability to work a flexible schedule, to include occasional evenings and/or weekends, to meet the needs of educators and be present at education functions
Willingness to travel across North Carolina, and driver’s license and valid transportation required.
Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills
* 5 years of education experience. * Excellent verbal and written communications skills are preferred in both English and Spanish. * North Carolina Teaching License, and 5 years of leadership experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. o Strong presentation skills. o Strong interpersonal skills: ability to work effectively with internal/external partners, teachers, families, and communities. o Knowledge of educational issues, and experience working in diverse communities including multiple generations, as well as across ethnic and racial communities. o A willingness to embrace change and to adapt strategies on the fly. o Ability to articulate and implement short-, mid-, and long-term goals.
