The Electrical Engineer provides engineering and installation support for CNI under the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Power Systems contract but not limited to FAA engineering and design. This position provides construction and operation system support for the installation and engineering of various electrical power equipment, fuel systems, and lightning protection.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Assists in the enhancement and/or maintenance of existing power systems at various facilities.

Uses advanced electrical knowledge to assist with and design various electrical systems included but not limited to back up engine generator systems (EG), EG fuel system(s), EG fuel tank(s), Uninterruptible Power Supply(s) (UPS), Static Transfer Switch, electrical distribution equipment, associated power system support equipment such as, power systems control hardware/software, HVAC, physical facility, and lighting. May be required periodically to travel and assist in site surveys, installs, and field support.

Performs surveys of existing power systems and associated equipment as well as the physical facility for adequacy of exiting equipment and to ensure new power system requirements are accommodated at facilities.

Troubleshoots failures in equipment and systems.

Provides support in the demolition and disposal of current power system equipment, such as EG, UPS, electrical distribution equipment, fuel systems and fuel tanks.

Examines and provides maintenance services for existing power systems.

Analyzes and conducts performance tests of electronic systems.

Produces engineering technical documentation.

Provides survey reports with assessments and technical data in accordance with FAA Facility Power Systems Program.

Designs and develops engineering documents for specific electrical power system equipment installations that included but not limited to: engine generators (EG), EG fuel system(s), EG fuel tank(s), Uninterruptible Power Supply(s) (UPS), Static Transfer Switch, electrical distribution equipment, arc flash/short circuit analysis and associated power system support equipment such as, power systems control hardware/software, HVAC, physical facility, lighting, and lightning protection.

Helps provide construction estimates, schedules, and project oversight.

Oversees/inspects construction related tasks (i.e., utility installation, general electrical, heavy equipment operation, welding, mechanical, etc.).

Ensures all safety requirements are met by the FAA, NFPA and OHSA standards.

Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.

Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.

Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and co-workers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.

Promotes and encourages a culture of compliance with all applicable rules (federal, state, local, Federal Acquisition Regulations, Code of Federal Regulations, Prime Contract requirements, etc.) for themselves and the company as a whole. Fosters an environment in which they will report any violations or reasonably suspected violation of CNI policy, FAR, and/or CFR and are comfortable discussing the myriad compliance, conflict, FAR, CFR, etc. issues that arise during the performance of a government contract.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of five (5) years’ related experience, or equivalent combination of education / experience. Experience working technical projects and rapid support to advanced technologies. Experience working as an electrical engineer focusing on power distribution systems. Experience should include working in a construction related discipline (i.e., utility installation, general electrical, heavy equipment operation, welding, mechanical, etc.).

Knowledge of maintenance and operation procedures of power systems and equipment

Operational knowledge of Personal Computer Systems, AutoCad and Microsoft Office Suite

Practical knowledge of construction, service maintenance and operation procedures of related systems and equipment

Practical knowledge of engineering methods and techniques

Practical knowledge of the construction, application, properties, operations, and limitations of engineering systems, processes, structures, machinery, devices and materials

Knowledge of equipment fabrication, prototype assembly and testing

Knowledge of computer systems, data processors, software and firmware applications with ability to understand FAA engineering programs, systems and equipment

Technical proficiency and effective problem-solving skills

Excellent verbal and written communications skills with ability to create and interpret a variety of technical materials

Excellent customer service and relationship-building skills and ability to effectively interact with others in the performance of assigned duties

Ability to prepare, read and interpret engineering drawings, schematic diagrams and technical directives

Ability to plan, organize, coordinate and execute work

Willingness and ability to learn new concepts and techniques

Ability to effectively work both individually and in a team environment

Ability to travel to client worksites on as needed basis

Ability to lead and manage employees on the jobsite if necessary

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION

Obtain and maintain any required state and local licenses for electrical work preferred

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professiona1journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds of weight from the floor to the waist. This weight will be constituted by the following items, but not limited to them: tools, toolboxes and tool bags, ladders, motors, supplies and equipment. Weights in excess of 50 pounds may need to be lifted between the floor and waist on rare occasions and may consist of the following items but not be limited to them: tools, toolboxes and tool bags, ladders, motors, supplies and equipment. Frequently operates small hand and power tools. Works at heights for extended periods of time. Wears required personal protective equipment such as steel toed shoes, work gloves, safety glasses, ear protection, dust masks, and safety belts on a continuous basis. Moderate to high risk of electrical shock. Minimum exposure to vibration, moving and mechanical parts. May be exposed to adverse weather conditions.
