Job description
This position is part of a statewide electrical inspection program. It is responsible for the inspection of all electrical installations within an assigned territory of the state. This position will be assigned to the north central part of the State, with the exact location determined by the candidate pool. They will ensure compliance with the State adopted National Electrical Code, State statutes and Administrative Rules of the State Electrical Examining Board. They will be expected to write reports, manage their inspection schedule, email on a computer, and work through a wireless database system. When necessary, these inspectors may be called upon to document code violations and deliver testimony in cases referred for legal prosecution. The Electrical Inspection Program will function as a bureau in the Iowa State Fire Marshal's Office.
Currently this position will cover the counties of Palo Alto, Buena Vista, Pocahontas, Humboldt, Webster, Sac, Calhoun, and Carroll. The assigned counties are subject to change to meet work load demands.
Ability to pass a thorough background investigation conducted by the Department of Public Safety.
Successful applicant must reside in Palo Alto, Buena Vista, Pocahontas, Humboldt, Webster, Sac, Calhoun, or Carroll County.

Applicants must be able to successfully pass a thorough background investigation as a condition of accepting this position.
Applicants must obtain one of the following types of certification within one (1) year of hiring:
- Certification by the International Code Council (ICC) as both a Residential Electrical Inspector and Commercial Electrical Inspector, or
- Certification by the International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI) as both a Certified Electrical Inspector - Residential and a Certified Electrical Inspector - Master.
Persons in this class are required to comply with all continuing education requirements established by the Electrical Licensing Board
