7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Monday- Friday; plus rotating shiftwork, evenings and holidays based on business need
- Performs installation of electrical raceways and related circuits.
- Installs new electrical circuits when needed.
- Diagnoses electrical problems, utilizing available diagnostic tools.
- Assists in re-lamping overhead ramp lights.
- Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical motors and generators used in various pumping operations, may require frequent lifting/carrying of up to 30 pounds.
- Maintain knowledge of current electrical codes, and ensures that all electrical systems meet standards.
- Repairs airfield electrical systems and electric gate operator systems.
- Installs, maintains, alters, and repairs electrical fixtures and equipment such as wiring, lighting power appliances, machinery, overhead circuits, underground conduits, and pole lines.
- Installs electrical hook-ups for special events.
- Repairs and maintains clocks, motors, and similar appliances in municipal buildings.
- Performs electrical inspections of buildings and equipment.
- Performs re-lamping of picnic areas, recreational areas, parking lots, and airport runways and taxiways.
- Installs electrical outlets, fuse boxes, circuit breakers, electrical panels, computer plugs, lighting systems, and other electrical components and equipment.
- Installs security and landscape lighting.
- Maintains an inventory of parts and equipment.
- Maintains emergency lighting systems.
- Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
- Four (4) years of experience in dedicated electrical maintenance or construction.
- Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
- Licensed as a Journeyman Electrician by the State of Texas.
- Must successfully pass all background investigations.
- Must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Security Threat Assessment and a Criminal History Records check upon employment.
- Must maintain federally mandated security clearance required to work at an airport at all times.
- Commercial or industrial electrical experience.
- Two (2) years as a licensed Journeyman electrician.
- Airport electrical experience is a plus.
- Class B CDL.

- Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
- Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted.
- Knowledge of tools, materials, methods, and practices of the electrical and air conditioning trades.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade, including working with high voltage.
- Knowledge of City and national electrical codes.
- Knowledge of electrical installation, repair, and maintenance techniques, practices, and procedures.
- Skill in operating standard tools, equipment, and testing devices of the trade.
- Ability to read, write, and understand instructions.
- Ability to interpret and work from technical sketches and blueprints.
- Ability to locate and correct defects in electrical systems, devices, machines, and equipment.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively,.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the general public.
- Ability to perform all the physical with or without accommodations,
intellectual, and analytical requirements of the position including decision making. - Working conditions are inside and outside with occasional exposure to temperature variations, damp/wet surfaces, hazardous materials, and high noise areas.
