  • Performs electronics engineering tasks of limited scope and difficulty which are screened by a higher grade engineer. Some knowledge of work processes and the capability to apply standard electronics engineering practices are required to directly apply varied rules, procedures, and precedents to the assignments.
  • Performs electronics engineering work of limited scope and complexity in support of projects assigned to higher grade engineers. Plans work procedures and selects standard practices and data to be applied to work proJec1as I and identified problems. Uses accepted engineering work processes to search for information bearing on a problem recognizes situations which may require referral to others.
  • Uses engineering manuals, standard publications, and technical material to obtain information and pertinent data to be used by higher level engineers, contractors, and/or customers.
  • . Keeps abreast of engineering technologies and professional developments to maintain currency in the field and for application to work assignments. Uses computers/computer software such as analysis tools and project tracking programs to solve engineering problems and facilitate work.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower broadband or equivalent to the next lower grade in the Federal Service.
GS-07:
This experience includes; Performing electronic engineering tasks of limited scope and difficulty which are screened by a higher grade engineer. Some knowledge of work processes and the capability to apply standard electronics engineering practices are required to directly apply varied rules, procedures, and precedents to the assignments.
GS-09:
This experience includes; Performing electronics engineering assignments which are routine and recurring. Draws upon well established approaches, criteria and practices of the profession, and uses typical engineering calculations and considerations in making minor modifications.
GS-11:
This experience includes; Performing electronics engineering work in support of conventional projects or portions of larger projects and programs under the guidance of a senior engineer. The incumbent must apply judgment in the independent application of the professional methods and techniques previously learned.
GS-12:
This experience includes; Performing as an electronics engineer for air-vehicle compatibility planning, testing and analysis.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

GS-11:
1. Professional knowledge of electronics engineering policies, theories, principles, and concepts d familiarity with other engineering disciplines to carry out conventional engineering assignments.
2. Ability to analyze, interpret, and apply electronics engineering rules and procedures in a variety of situations and recommend effective solutions to senior engineers.
3. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
4. Knowledge of computer operations and standard software applications.
GS-12:
1. Knowledge of professional engineering concepts, principles, and practices applicable to the full range of engineering duties concerned with electronics engineering, computer software, and test and evaluation
2. In-depth knowledge of one or more specialized areas of engineering sufficient to apply new anal developments, methodologies, and research findings to new methods, approaches, and procedures.
3. Skill in coordinating extensive projects in assigned areas of responsibility across organization boundaries. Projects arc characterized by high visibility, unusual agency or program criticality.
4. Ability to use advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices of engineering and related sciences and disciplines.
5. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to large and/or diverse audiences.
6. Knowledge of electrical and electromagnetic principles, instrumentations, computer programming. testing instrumentation, and test interfaces.

Education

Basic Requirements for 0855:
A. Degree: Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience - college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following:
1. Professional registration or licensure - Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT)1 , or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Absent other means of qualifying under this standard, those applicants who achieved such registration by means other than written test (e.g., State grandfather or eminence provisions) are eligible only for positions that are within or closely related to the specialty field of their registration. For example, an applicant who attains registration through a State Board's eminence provision as a manufacturing engineer typically would be rated eligible only for manufacturing engineering positions.
2. Written Test - Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE)2 examination or any other written test required for professional registration by an engineering licensure board in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico.
3. Specified academic courses - Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A. The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program as described in paragraph A.
4. Related curriculum - Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions. (The above examples of related curricula are not allinclusive.)
