Job Summary:

The Senior Electronic Technician will modify, repair, and improve existing electronic products, equipment, and controls and will assist in developing new or updated electronic systems, components, or products at supporting Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division Waterfront Operations in Bangor, Washington.

This position requires current eligibility for a Top-Secret DoD security clearance.

Duties/Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Repairs, installs, and inspects electronics or electronic systems as directed through verbal or written directions, diagrams, drawings, or specifications.
  • Maintains and makes necessary operating adjustments to the organization’s electronic systems.
  • Determines material or replacement needs and a logical method for repair; takes appropriate action to meet those needs and makes repairs.
  • Ensures local, state, and national electrical codes are followed and proper materials are used throughout electrical systems.
  • Manages and installs cables and wiring, splicing as needed.
  • Creates or adapts parts as needed to make repairs and improve the performance of various electronics.
  • Performs safety checks to ensure design plans are feasible in various conditions.
  • Reports potentially dangerous electrical equipment to supervisor and takes steps to resolve the issue.
  • Instructs employees regarding safe working procedures and requirements when working with electronic equipment and components.
  • Develops and maintains records related to electronic and electrical equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Experience with commercial navigation products (e.g. AIS, GPS, GNSS, etc)
  • Experience with marine communication and radar systems
  • Experience with network interfaces
  • Proficient with Oscilloscopes, function generators, multimeters, and standard electronic test equipment.
  • Thorough understanding of AC and DC distributions systems
  • Ability to interpret and utilize schematics and electrical system drawings
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair electronic systems to the component level
  • Basic through-hole and wire to component soldering
  • Thorough understanding of electronics principles and design.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Detail-oriented and organized.
  • Excellent problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to follow highly complex directions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with commercial navigation products (e.g. AIS, GPS, GNSS, etc)
  • Experience with marine communication and radar systems
  • Familiarity with common communication protocols (eg. RS-232, RS-485, NMEA 183, NMEA 2000)
  • Experience with CNC and additive manufacturing equipment
  • Experience with acoustic acquisition equipment
  • Experience with data acquisition/test equipment interface software (LABVIEW, MATLAB)
  • Familiarity with common video signal distribution (VGA/HDMI/DP)


Required Education and Experience:

  • Fifteen years of experience
  • Associate degree in Electronics required or similar formal education.
  • Electronic Technician certification or comparable certification or licensure required. (Military experience will be considered in lieu of certification)

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the day. The employee must frequently lift and move items up to 50 pounds and work in an outdoor environment in adverse weather conditions for extended periods of time. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must have the ability to distinguish various colors of wires and distinguish electronic system sections and wiring.


Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., 40 hours per week. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel:
No travel is expected for this position.
