The Elementary Principal will oversee grades VPK-5th in regards to faculty, students, and curriculum. This person shall be a person of spiritual maturity and shall reflect the purpose of the school, which is to honor Christ at all times.
Elementary Principal Responsibilities
Supervision of Curriculum and Instruction
The Elementary Principal shall develop and manage curriculum and instruction for grades VPK-5th, coordinating with the Head of School to ensure continual and appropriate scope and sequences of concepts and skills for interdisciplinary subject matter. He/She will supervise the instructional process to strive for maximizing individual potential from both teachers and students. In order to accomplish the objective, the Elementary Principal shall do the following:
1. Coordinate with the Head of School the total program by planning and preparing the school calendar, maintaining and proposing changes to the Faculty Handbook, developing the elementary schedule, working in coordination with the Head of School on Faculty In-Service and post-planning.
2. Receive for review and approval semester curricular plans and goals from each teacher.
3. Receive approval from the Head of School for all textbooks, teaching aids, and supplies proposed by the teachers.
4. Assign teachers and students to subjects and grades for the maximum benefit of both.
5. Supervise classroom instruction through class visitation and relationships, and evaluate curriculum content (*per Board Policy, Administrative Personnel will not have direct supervision/evaluation over their spouse. That responsibility will be transferred to the Head of School or other Administrative designee).
6. Know state, federal and accrediting association requirements and incorporate them into the curriculum.
7. Manage cumulative records and other student data in accordance with state requirements and school directives.
8. Encourage field trips and other innovative methods that support a quality learning experience. Receive final approval from Head of School.
9. Seek to keep a balance between curricular and extra-curricular programs.
10. Help the Head of School actively promote staff development through in-house workshops, providing publisher’s training, teacher attendance to various conferences, and a mentoring system among the veteran faculty and new recruits.
11. Help grades VPK-5th faculty with processing and maintaining ACSI teacher certification.
12. Strive to develop positive relationships and mentor teachers through ongoing communication and redemptive corrective measures.
13. Coordinate with the Guidance Counselor on preparation, staff development, parent communication and interpretation of standardized test.
14. Meet regularly with faculty to evaluate the academic program and make adjustments as needed.
Behavioral Management
Objective: The Elementary Principal shall regulate and enforce discipline for grades K4-5. For persistent behavior problems, the Elementary Principal will confer with the Dean of Students.
The Elementary Principal shall maintain appropriate discipline in the following manner:
1. Provide in-service training and instruct faculty on protocol for managing student behaviors in the classroom.
2. Counsel with teachers, students, and parents when problems persist.
3. Adhere to rules within the Faculty and Parent-Student Handbooks in administering discipline.
4. Administer correction in keeping with school guidelines.
5. Seek to avoid disciplinary problems by screening enrollment through interviews and testing.
Operational Support Staff
Objective: The Elementary Principal shall maintain efficient operation of substitute teachers and extended care workers for grades K4-5.
To insure efficient school support operations, the Elementary Principal shall:
1. Strive to develop positive relationships and mentor support personnel through the use of redemptive corrective measures.
2. Supervise and manage the support programs within state requirements.
Elementary Facilities Management
Objective: To promote safety, health, and efficiency of the overall school program and everyone that is involved, the Elementary Principal shall maintain an environment for grades K4-5 that is conducive to a quality education.
The Elementary Principal shall maintain an appropriate educational environment by taking the following action.
1. Supervise the inspection and security of the grounds and buildings on a daily basis.
2. Maintain safe and functional furniture and equipment needed to support the educational program.
3. Assign rooms and buildings to specific people for designated purposes, both curricular and extra-curricular, avoiding conflicts and improper use of facilities.
4. Supervise student behavior and habits to insure proper maintenance and protection of school property.
5. Implement, maintain, and test school security procedures.
6. Evaluate security on an ongoing basis and make adjustments as needed.
7. Know and implement state and federal requirements.
8. Notify the Head of Maintenance about issues that need to be addressed.
Spiritual Leadership
Objective: The Elementary Principal shall strive to develop a Christ-like atmosphere in his/her school.
In submission to God’s will, the Elementary Principal shall persist toward meeting this objective by implementing and maintaining the following measures:
1. Attest his/her own personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
2. Pray for his/her school and its needs.
3. Seek God’s wisdom, guidance, and correction in His Holy Word and through godly counsel.
4. In coordination with the Head of School, lead Elementary departmental meetings, as well as, be a part of coordinating faculty and staff devotions.
5. Plan and supervise elementary chapel implementing student participation as appropriate (special music, prayer, testimony, etc.) and, at times, having guest speakers, all to provide an environment for the spiritual growth of children.
6. Minister to individuals associated with the school through cards, phone calls, visits, and encouragement.
7. Encourage and support teachers to incorporate biblical integration into their lesson plans and provide opportunities for student involvement in missions and community outreach efforts.
Miscellaneous
1. He/She shall attend special events, musicals, games, and various school related gathering as much as possible.
2. He/She shall be responsible for the Elementary portion of ACSI accreditation.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
