Job Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
~ Must be capable of regular and predictable attendance at a specified location in order to perform assigned tasks.
~ Supports management staff by performing computerized drafting (CAD), and project development necessary for project design, and calculation of bid item project quantities.
~ Performs tests on concrete, verifies grade alignment, checks mat temperature and yield on asphalt projects, witnesses and/or collects samples of construction materials.
~ Measures distances to verify accuracy of dimensions of layout and installations. Verifies levels, alignment and elevations, of installations using total station and level.
~ Interprets construction plans and specifications to ensure project is built to conformance.
~ Maintains daily logs of construction inspection activities and compiles progress reports and observes work in progress to ensure procedures are followed and that materials used conform to specifications.
~ Obtains field data necessary for design and maintenance of roadway, bridges, water resources, site development, boundary surveying and other items.
~ Other duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES TO BE PERFORMED BY ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN AIDE II:
~ Generates pay vouchers for construction progress tracking and contractor payments.
~ Perform duties of the Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) plant inspector including review of plant reports; monitor collection of aggregate belt samples and asphalt cement samples, perform aggregate monitor gradations, verify mix temperatures, and verify aggregate moisture content.
Minimum Required Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS FOR ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN AIDE I:
~ Associate"s degree (A.S/A.A.S.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school in Construction Engineering Technology or other related field OR a Certificate in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent from one-year technical school in engineering; surveying or construction and at least 6 months of experience and/or training in engineering; surveying or construction OR a high school diploma or GED and at least 3 years of experience and/or training in engineering- surveying, or construction.
~ Must have valid Iowa Driver's License and be insurable under the county"s guidelines.
~ Must obtain an Iowa DOT Certified Technician certificate for PCC I, Aggregate Sampler, and HMA Sampler within one year after employment with the Engineer's Department and must continue to keep them current.

~ Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
~ Ability to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
~ Must be proficient in computer software applications including Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and computerized drafting software.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS REQUIRED FOR ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN AIDE II:
