Entry Level IT Technician
Job description
GreatNews.Life, publishers of Valpo.Life, Portage.Life, LaPorteCounty.Life, and NWI.Life, s seeking a full time, in-office IT team member. We are looking for a qualified IT Technician that will upkeep the internal tech ongoing. This will include installation and maintenance of computer systems and networks aiming for the highest functionality. Additionally ensuring that the entire team, collection of networks, and equipment all continues to work and run properly. You will also train users of the systems to make appropriate and safe usage of the IT infrastructure.
A successful IT Technician must have a thorough knowledge of computer software and hardware and a variety of internet applications, networks and operating systems. The ideal candidate will also have great troubleshooting abilities, great communication skills, and strong attention to detail.
This is an entry-level position and involves working in a variety of IT situations. It requires attention to detail, the ability to balance multiple projects at once, and the flexibility to wear many hats as needed. Must have the willingness and ability to learn new things as technology continues to change and evolve.
The goal is to build and maintain updated and efficient computer systems and networks to optimize the role of technology on business sustainability.
Primary responsibilities:
- Assist in the development and implementation of new features, enhancements, and content on existing WordPress websites
- Set up workstations with computers and necessary peripheral devices (routers, printers etc.)
- Check computer hardware (HDD, mouses, keyboards etc.) to ensure functionality
- Ongoing learning and research to ensure ongoing functionality and project completion
- Install and configure appropriate software and functions according to specifications
- Develop and maintain local networks in ways that optimize performance
- Ensure security and privacy of networks and computer systems
- Provide orientation and guidance to users on how to operate new software and computer equipment
- Organize and schedule upgrades and maintenance without deterring others from completing their work
- Perform troubleshooting to diagnose and resolve problems (repair or replace parts, debugging etc.)
- Maintain records/logs of repairs and fixes and maintenance schedule
- Identify computer or network equipment shortages and place orders
- At times this position will involve updates, upgrades, and addressing emergencies during off hours
- Ensure electrical safety standards are met
- Perform tests and evaluations of new software and hardware
Minimum qualifications:
- Familiarity with macOS, Windows, and Ubuntu environments
- Good knowledge of internet security and data privacy principles
- Positive attitude and regular communication
- In-office troubleshooting ability
- Ability to shift focus between multiple ongoing projects
- Excellent diagnostic and problem solving skills
- Excellent communication ability
- Outstanding organizational and time-management skills
- In depth understanding of diverse computer systems and networks
Preferred not required qualifications:
- Interest in or basic experience with web development
- Proven experience as IT Technician or relevant position
- A knack for task automation
- Unit testing experience
- Contribution to open-source projects
- Certification as IT Technician will be an advantage (e.g. CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified IT Professional)

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25,000.00 - $40,000.00 per year
