Environmental Health and Safety Manager

Responsibilities

The primary function of the EH&S Manager is to ensure the plant’s compliance with all local and state environmental, safety and industrial hygiene regulations and work to promote and maintain an injury free workplace on a day-to-day basis.


Major Job Functions:

1. Implement and manage all safety and industrial hygiene programs in accordance with state and federal regulations and company expectations.

2. Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention. Promote a positive safety culture at the Painesville site.

3. Investigate accidents or incidents to discover root causes, implement corrective and preventative actions, and handle worker’s compensation claims.

4. Uses every opportunity to drive EHS awareness by demonstrating safe behavior, continuous self-development and education in areas of environmental, health & safety compliance, industry trends and regulatory developments.

5. Implement and manage the ISO 14000 standard at the Painesville site.

6. Manage all permits to operate for the Painesville site. Develop routine regulatory reports required by the various environmental permits, conduct required activities to maintain the permits and file reapplications necessary to meet business needs.

7. Coordinate all activities associated with the environmental, health and safety requirements including ergonomics.

8. Act as the site EHS representative with third parties, including neighbouring businesses, local councils, and regulatory bodies including all local, state officials and federal agencies.

9. Develop and manage the site emergency/evacuation plans. Coordinate and conduct site preparedness drills. Engage with local emergency reponse agencies to share emergency plans and increase awareness of site hazards.

10. Responsible for the proper management of waste and emissions of the Painesville site.

11. Responsible for site security.

12. Active member of the Altana USA EH&S Network and reports also to Eckart Germany corporate office on EH&S matters.

13. All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Position Requirements:

1. Bachelor of Science degree and a minimum of five years’ experience in environmental health and safety in an industrial environment.

2. Previous working knowledge of ISO 14000 is not compulsory but will be considered as significant advantage. Working knowledge of ISO 9001.

3. In depth knowledge of OSHA, HAZMAT & DOT regulations.

4. Strong organizational, incident/accident investigation and problem-solving skills.

5. Excellent oral and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels in the organization. Previous safety training experience would be of benefit.

6. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

7. This job will require a minimal amount of travel, less than 10%.
