Summary of Position:
The Executive Director of the Saratoga Hospital Foundation is the chief development officer reporting directly to the President and CEO of Saratoga Hospital and to the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Saratoga Hospital Foundation. This position is responsible for leading and strengthening a comprehensive fundraising program in support of the Hospital’s mission, vision and strategic plan. Specific emphasis is focused on annual giving, major giving, planned giving, grants and fundraising events. The Executive Director is also responsible for engaging the Foundation Board of Directors and establishing connections with community stakeholders that advance the key priorities and programs of the hospital through fundraising support. The Executive Director reports to the President /Chief Executive Officer.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
Planning: Develops a strategic plan that guides the priorities for the Foundation. Establishes measurable objectives for annual giving, special events, capital projects and campaign donations. Provides periodic reports on achievement of goals and proactively addresses variance from objectives and goals.
Goal Setting: Develop annual measurable goals for major gifts, annual/community giving, employee giving, events, and capital/campaign projects.
Board Development: Develops and manages activities and fundraising efforts that effectively integrate the Hospital President and CEO, Foundation Board Members, Hospital Board of Trustees, and key volunteers. In conjunction with the Foundation Board Chair, leads, organizes and staffs the activities and functions of the Foundation Board and its committees.
Donor Development: Identifies and researches major donor prospects. Maintains an active portfolio of major donor prospects and engages in a program of personal outreach, relationship development, solicitation and stewardship.
Community Relations: Works collaboratively with the Director of Marketing, President/CEO and members of the senior team as appropriate to ensure the hospital is represented in a wide range of community relations activities including but not limited to fundraising. Supports the President and CEO in ensuring hospital visibility throughout the community and promoting the hospital, its programs and services. Participates in community activities, Hospital and Foundation committees, and other endeavors to become integrated into the community and Hospital. Serve as the Foundation’s primary advocate and spokesperson in the local and regional community to increase awareness, understanding, and appreciation of the Foundation and Saratoga Hospital.
Fiscal Management: Prepares and actively monitors an annual operating and capital budget. Identifies budget variance and takes corrective action as needed. Establishes fundraising targets and monitors progress towards goals. With Hospital partners, identifies fundraising projects for donor support.
Communications: Develops a communication plan which includes annual appeals (currently three annually), stewardship collateral, newsletters (3x year), and promotes Hospital achievements and needs through print, social media, and public speaking.
Human Resource Management Provides leadership and effectively manages human resource processes for foundation staff. Consults with human resources to ensure thorough understanding of employment policies. Effectively coaches staff, providing timely and constructive feedback and takes corrective action as needed to improve performance.
Compliance: Establishes and ensures compliance with policies and procedures related to the implementation and management of an effective and professional fundraising program. Ensures confidentiality of all donor records and files and maintains an accurate and up to date donor database. Ensures proper documentation that meets industry standards for such things as gift agreements, named space commitments, endowed fund reporting, pledge reminders, and gift receipts.
Additional Responsibilities:
Perform other duties as assigned by the Hospital President and CEO and/or the Foundation Board Chair.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred. Minimum of seven years of increasingly responsible fundraising experience, preferably in a healthcare setting. Experience in public relations, marketing and advertising preferred preferably healthcare.
Certifications/Licensure:
Certification or CFRE preferred. New York State driver’s license
Other Requirements:
Executive Director must reside within the primary service area of the hospital.

- Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in all phases of Advancement work.
- Demonstrated track record of solid accomplishment in fundraising.
- Demonstrated experience with board management.
- Clear demonstration of sound leadership characteristics; ethical standards, creativity, risk-taking.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse constituents including, but not limited to, staff, leaders, medical staff, patients and the community.
- Able to instill a sense of teamwork and a team-oriented environment.
- Excellent communication skills (written, oral, listening, presentation) required.

- Proficient with Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrates a thorough understanding of general financial principles and procedures pertaining to budget development, monitoring and justification.

- Able to perform high level conceptual analysis, formulate plans and implement.
- Able to prepare complex reports, memoranda and other written materials.
- Understands, interprets and applies laws, rules, regulations and policies related to assigned area.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $100,000.00 - $149,888.33 per year
