Executive Senior Associate Director of Athletics / Chief Commercial Officer – DIA

Job Summary

Set and communicate championship expectations for revenue generating units to cultivate both passive and active revenue streams, including contributing to Big Ten revenue-generating partnerships and growing ticket sales, premium seating, and related revenue sources. Relentlessly advance fan engagement through in-venue experience and print/digital outreach.

Executive External Leadership
  • Through proper empowerment, engagement, and incentivization, build a staff culture where all members of DIA’s external-facing staff, regardless of role, are invested in team and individual student-athlete experience and success;
  • Establish a fan and consumer-centric culture across all daily operations;
  • Serve as a visible, positive ambassador for University of Illinois and DIA in all public-facing responsibilities;
  • Use DIA and the traditions it embodies, old and new, as a platform to unify all stakeholders to propel our school spirit and campus pride forward;
  • Identify, recruit, develop, and retain championship-caliber staff; and
  • Serve as an executive advisor to the Director of Athletics on all commercial revenue strategies and initiatives.

Gameday and Event Revenue and Ticketing Operations
  • Develop strategies, campaigns and tactics to maximize the sales of game and event tickets, including season tickets, partial plans, group sales and single game tickets;
  • Serve as oversight and liaison between commercial sales and ticket operations departments to coordinate messaging, sales efforts, and timelines;
  • Responsible for identification and daily tracking of key performance indicators and the regular communication of sales team performance to DIA’s executive leadership team;
  • Identify and manage external service providers to effectively manage ticket inventory, set pricing and efficiently deploy resources to reach ticket sales and external revenue goals; and
  • Create fan and consumer development strategies to create a pipeline to DIA’s philanthropic giving activities.

Annual Fund Revenue and Stewardship
  • Develop strategies, campaigns and tactics to drive new member recruitment and revenue generation strategies for DIA’s annual fund, including through the sale of premium seating and associated fan experiences;
  • Manage ticket priority programs to align revenue generation strategies with allocation of seating and other in-venue benefits and experiences; and
  • Create and execute marketing, sales and communication plans regarding premium seating, ticket priority program and annual giving clubs/status levels.

Fan Engagement and Enrichment
  • Lead and collaborate with internal and external leaders of DIA’s gameday production, event management and concessions operations to ensure the consistent and seamless production of all DIA events;
  • Generate increased attendance by creating an enhanced event presentation structure that contributes to a first-class in-venue fan experience for all sports; and
  • Manage internal staffing and external relationships to ensure event execution plans are resourced appropriately.

Strategic Communication, Production and Creative Branding
  • Create and manage a unified team of internal and external partners to execute marketing campaigns that drive ticket sales, event attendance and overall engagement for all DIA sport programs and events;
  • Lead the development of community marketing plans, including the creation of print and digital collateral, to enhance in-market activations, special events and other consumer-centric initiatives; and
  • Manage a team of creative professionals to creatively tell the stories of DIA’s teams, student-athletes, coaches and staff across all print and digit.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Required: Bachelor's degree in business, sports management, kinesiology, recreation or related field required. Experience:

Required: Minimum five years’ experience in administration of athletics. Specific experience in development, revenue generations and ticket sales.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:
Preferred: Master’s degree in same area as required.

Experience:
Preferred: Experience with Division I intercollegiate athletics preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Maintain knowledge of and compliance with, specific NCAA, Big Ten Conference, and institution rules that relate to this position;
  • Excellent public relations and interpersonal skills in dealing with customers, student-athletes, peers, administrative personnel, boosters, and community;
  • Knowledge of budgeting, and general business administration

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 4/16/2023. Salary is commensurate with experience.
