Job description
William A. Hazel, Inc., a total site development contractor for over 50 years, is looking for a Pipe Layer for our Pipe Crew. This position reports to and is under the direction of foreman or superintendent. William A. Hazel, Inc., operates all over the Northern Virginia Area. By applying to this position, you acknowledge and understand you may be required to commute to job sites.
Essential Functions
- Work grades.
- Set grade boards or laser beam.
- Assure proper line of grade.
- Has overall responsibility in the ditch.
- Assures compaction on top of pipe.
- Assures proper amount of stone under pipe.
- Must have working knowledge of safety regulations.
- Must know inspector’s requirements.
- Responsible for setting manholes on grade at the correct angles.
- As directed by competent authority.
- Includes laborer/topman duties.
Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must have 2 years related experience and/or training on a pipe crew. Reasoning ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form. Ability to read a limited number of two and three syllable words and recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences. Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and wieght measurements, volume and distance.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibration.
