Job Description:
L3Harris is seeking an experienced and skilled Welder. The successful candidate will join our BFTT (Battle Force Tactical Training) department and work as a member of an Alteration Installation Team (AIT). This individual will perform task and activities in the execution of structural modifications required for the installation of shipboard electronic equipment.
Essential Functions:
- Weld and fit structural components in accordance with MIL-STD-1689/22D.
- Assemble, install, and repair; piping, ventilation, and other shipboard components removed as interference for the installation of electronic equipment.
- Preform task in accordance with applicable ship drawings, specifications, weld procedures and NAVSEA standard items 009-03, 009-07, 009-12.
- Qualify to welding procedure in accordance with NAVSEA S9074-AQ-GIB-010/248
- Work closely with other team members.
- At any time, individual may be tasked by the AIT lead to perform other duties including but not limited to; priming and painting; removing and installing insulation; fire watching, and any other task required in support of installation project.
- Demonstrate a knowledge of shipbuilding construction methodology.
- Work under the direction of the AIT Lead.
- The Fabrication Technician - will be based in Norfolk, Virginia and will support various classes of Naval Vessels.
- Travel up to 30% of the time to other domestic ports and OCONUS ports in support of BFTT installation projects. Ability to obtain and maintain certifications essential to accomplish required work.
- Familiar with U.S. Naval protocol and the ability to work directly with personnel in uniform and representatives of other entities.
- Experience interpreting blueprints, drawings, manuals, and written work requests.
- Must be willing to perform a variety of duties in and around a shipyard and during ship repair/modernization availabilities.
- Able to communicate on an above average level both orally and in writing.
- Proficient with typical PC applications to include Microsoft Word, Office, and Excel.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Clearance.
Qualifications:
- Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent with 8 years of Welding experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in electric arc welding.
- Must pass 6G qualification Test (SMAW/GTAW)
- Must pass structural qualification test for Carbon Steel (FCAW) and 5XXX Aluminum (GMAW)
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must have a current Passport or be able to obtain one.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Previous shipbuilding experience.
