Job Description
Overview
This position supports PNNL’s facility operations and the Sustainability Program. It has a unique opportunity to make an immediate impact as PNNL leads by example in net zero emission buildings, real-time load management, renewable energy, and resilient operation. We are looking for candidates with practical experience with building automation control systems (design, programming, commissioning, and operations) to optimize building performance and enable timely and proactive operation and maintenance of building systems. This position will be responsible for maintaining day-to-day building operation performance using state of the art Metasys building control system and other energy analytic tools to optimize facility operation and reduce energy/water usage. Targeted areas include HVAC systems and controls, boiler and chiller optimization, vacuum and compressed air efficiencies, lighting controls and improvements, building re and continuous commissioning, system simulations and integration, and system improvement training sessions for plant operations staff.
Responsibilities
Operate and manage PNNL’s Facility Management Control Systems (FMCS)/Building Automation Systems (BAS), a network of facility system controllers with both embedded software routines as well as configurable software code, downloadable from remote or direct connected workstations.
Trouble shooting building operations and controls challenges, which includes monitoring and providing configuration control of various building operations and environment systems, such as HVAC and lighting, electrical, water treatment, vacuum, supply/exhaust airflow, chilled and hot water, and pumps to enable continuous commissioning, achieve energy/water savings goals, and support Smart Labs operations.
Support general facility operations, which may include general maintenance/repair of facility equipment and facility outages.
Collaborate with Building Operations Control Center (BOCC) Building Engineer and the Sustainability Engineers to develop and implement Sequence of Operations (SOOs); perform commissioning/functional testing of new controllers; improve metering program performance; and support electrical load management.
Interface with IT on network configuration of overall FMCS systems for new facility or major renovation projects, such IP address and trouble shooting.
The candidate must demonstrate the ability to perform application (high-level software) programming on BAS networked systems and translate strategy into specific goals and objectives; works on complex problems and provide innovative solutions; and develop positive working relationships with multiple stakeholders.

- BS/BA and 7 years of relevant experience -OR-
- MS/MA or higher and 5 years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficient with building automation system programing and graphics.
- Knowledge in/proficient with interpreting HVAC Sequence of Operations.
- Knowledge in/proficient with performing functional testing.
- Knowledge in/proficient with JCI Metasys control system/Metasys User Interface; and/or Alerton building control system.
- Familiar with Maximo software.
- Familiar with Energy Analytic software (e.g., SkySpark).
- Knowledge of facility operations on Department of Energy (DOE) laboratories.
- Knowledge of diagnose and repair control system malfunctions.
