Job description
The Family Resource Specialist is responsible for recruiting, screening, training, and the retention of foster families so there are
adequate foster family resources available for children being referred to the FCCP (Foster Care and Community Programs).
Job Duties / Essential Functions
Promote the visibility of KidsPeace FCCP in local communities through public speaking opportunities and marketing
efforts. Identify and utilize paid and non-paid methods of advertising to attract and generate inquiries from potential foster
parents.
1.Respond in an expedient manner to all inquiries generated from advertising/marketing and Public Relations efforts.
Share and gather information by phone or in person with all potential foster parent applicants, following established
guidelines and instructions.
2.Screen all foster parent applicant household members via personal interviews and the use of supplementary
assessments. Utilize the KidsPeace approval process and procedures to determine if the applicant families and their
homes meet State and KidsPeace requirements for approval. Eligible families in process will be presented to, reviewed
by, and considered for final approval by the KidsPeace Family Acceptance Committee.
3.Facilitate and/or provide training for all approved foster parents and foster parent applicants using state required and/or
agency approved pre-service and ongoing training curricula. Participate in the development and presentation of new
training topics, and/or identify qualified speakers and presenters to offer appropriate subject material. Ensure that foster
parents are trained in Resiliency Theory and understand ways to improve protective factors for children in their care.
4.Initiate, coordinate and oversee agency-sponsored activities and events that promote foster family involvement and
recognition, for the purpose of retention.
5.Assure the quality of foster parent files prior to final approval through adherence to the FCCP Quality Assessment
system.
6.Maintain monthly records of all activities related to job responsibilities, using the required logs, forms and reports.
Complete all documentation related to the approval of families in a timely manner.
7.Provide on-call services as required by the individual office site.
If applicable and permitted by state regulations, assist office by covering cases and providing case management duties
when office is down staff and may need assistance.
8. All other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications (Education, Training and Experiences)
1. Bachelors degree in social work, psychology, or a related field with at least 2 years of experience in a Human Services
related environment required; Masters level with experience preferred.
2. Ideal candidates will have child welfare experience, strong assessment abilities, excellent verbal and written
communication skills, and willingness to work occasional non-traditional hours including early evenings and weekends as
needed.
3. Must possess the ability to be trained, and pass, First Aid and CPR certifications; Valid Driver’s License Required.
4. Must possess basic personal computer knowledge and skills.
5. Must be 21 years of age.
6. Indiana State - Graduation from an accredited four year college. ('Caseworker in Training' classification)
7. Indiana State - Graduation from an accredited four year college, plus five years of supervised paid case work experience,
at least two years of which should have been in an approved child placing agency; except that one year of graduate
training in a recognized school of social work, including supervised case work in the field, may be substitute for the
required five years of supervised paid case work experience. ('Caseworker B' state classification)
8. Indiana State - Graduation from an accredited four year college, plus one year of graduate training in a recognized school
of social work, including supervised case work in the field, plus two years of supervised paid case work experience one
year of which should have been in an approved child placing agency; except that a second year of graduated training or a
master's degree from a recognized school of social work, including supervised case work in the field, may be substituted
for one year of the required two years of supervised paid case work experience , but there should be no substitution for the
required one year of paid case work experience in an approved child placing agency. ('Caseworker A' classification)
9. Indiana State - All state DCS mandated trainings related to the licensing of foster homes. SAFE training required.
