Fastener Engineer

Reporting to the Lead – Senior Fastener Engineer, the Fastener Engineer is responsible for the supporting the design and execution of the fastener strategy for Mullen complete vehicle design and development. Activities are inclusive from product concept through to production launch. This role relies on innovation and an ability to produce without standard procedures.
The Fastener Engineer will support Mullen engineering and business teams based in Irvine, California and its partner facilities.
Responsibilites:
· Perform Joint Design, Fastener Catalog Standard Part Release, and Validation.
· Work with FEA engineers to specify loads, define stress targets, and improve analysis methods for bolted joint analysis
· Assist Design Release Engineers in joint design and recommend fasteners based on usage, coating & part strength and durability.
· Perform upfront analysis of bolted joint systems to identify the optimal fastener, optimize robustness and minimize costly redesigns.
· Achieve commonization of fasteners with assembly-friendly solutions.
· Manage the creation & maintenance of CAD, part numbers, and drawings (using CATIA V6).
· Maintain a list of critical joints for the product.
· Track progress of fastener selection, release, and validation.
· Support full vehicle testing strategy based on cooperation with internal and/or external stake holders to validate joints. Inclusive of conduct physical verification testing of bolted joints, breakaway torque audits and vehicle durability analysis.
· Provide Design Release Engineers with testing support including samples and testing oversight.
· Contribute with the development & review of system and component designs, DFMEA’s, DFM, DFA and Continuous Improvement activities.
· Prepare and present test reports and results to cross-functional teams.
· Support investigation and introduction of new fastener technologies.
· Willingness to travel as required.
· Other Tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
Basic Requirements/Qualifications (included but not limited to):
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience in related field. Master’s degree is considered an asset.
· 3+ years automotive OEM or supplier, fastener experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with Catia 3DX and Jira an asset.
- Knowledgeable with 3D CAD modeling software (i.e., Catia v6 preferred) for developing and designing product solutions.
- Ability to read system and component drawings, inclusive of GD&T.
- Fastener lab testing experience.
- Fastener selection and performance recommendation experience.
- Fastened joint design review experience required.
- Experience in developing and managing specifications & requirements for passenger vehicles.
- Highly organized, good planner, independent and detail oriented.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience working in diverse cultural situations with global customers and team members.
- Initiative to develop and implement process improvements with a continuous improvement outlook.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $125,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
