The Job You Will Perform:
The Fiber Supply Manager manages and coordinates wood fiber, chips, and fiber fuel deliveries to support the Riegelwood Mill. Duties include team leadership, procurement planning, wood cost forecasting, logistics, inventory management, process improvement, and managing relationships on fiber procurement-related issues in and outside the industry. The position reports to the East Region Manager, who has overall fiber procurement responsibility for nine mills.
The position provides leadership to the Riegelwood Fiber Supply team. Further responsibilities include:
- Provide the necessary leadership to ensure team members, contractors, and on-site visitors are safe.
- Strategic planning
- Ensure optimized wood plans are updated to maintain the lowest cost sustainably.
- Leadership of continuous improvement projects that improve processes and reduce waste.
- Shared leadership of the Riegelwood Mill and Fiber Supply Joint Team; be an active East Region Fiber Supply Lead Team member.
- Responsible for effective communications with the mill woodyard and mill leadership.
- Maintain an in-depth & up to date knowledge of fiber markets and ensure team members do the same.
- Responsible for managing performance and development for all team member’s developmental opportunities. Responsible for creating an inclusive environment necessary for strong team engagement.
- Build and maintain beneficial relationships with key suppliers, external customers, mill partners, government officials, and industry associations.
SCOPE:
- Direct supervision of two exempt employees and one non-exempt employee. Indirect control of an additional four exempt and four non-exempt employees.
- Responsible for annual 3.8 million tons of sustainably sourced pine roundwood and chip purchases.
- Total annual fiber and procurement spend > $ 100 million.
- Fiber Fuel purchases > 200,000 tons annually.
- Oversight of roundwood wet storage and chip mill operations that supports the Riegelwood Mill and other mills sourced by International Paper.
- Closely coordinate with New Bern Fiber Supply operations and procure additional hardwood and pine for other International Paper sourced mills.
The Skills You Will Bring:
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in forest management, business administration, supply chain required, or related field.
- At least five years’ experience in procurement or related fields preferred.
- Well-grounded in business management with a working knowledge of supply chain management.
- Candidates should have a working knowledge of the use and application of forecasting & optimization models.
- Must be adept at handling change in a dynamic local market.
- Working knowledge of MS Office and SAP.
