JOB CLASSIFICATION / WORK EXPECTATIONS: SALARY RANGE: $70,000 - $90,000

The Finance and Accounting Manager is a full time, exempt position. Employees in this position follow the Year
Round Work Calendar as determined annually.

SUMMARY:

The Finance and Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing all financial operations at HOPE Online
Learning Academy Co-Op. This person will advise the CEO, Leadership Team and Board of Directors on the financial, operational, and budget matters of the school while administering the finances in accordance with federal, state, and local laws. Job responsibilities include managing all finance functions involved with: bookkeeping, accounting, budgeting, grants management, payroll, purchasing, risk management, and financial transparency.
Responsible for monthly and quarterly reports in support of financial reporting and transparency. Assists with long and short-range financial planning, advises on special projects, and provides analyses to support board and executive decision making. This position will report directly to the CEO.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Accountable for entire accounting cycle – Accounts Receivable/Accounts Payable, full payroll cycle, daily cash management, journal entries, fixed assets, depreciation.
  • Manage all financial processes including: bookkeeping, financial reporting, financial audit, banking, tax filing, general ledger, staff payroll, and purchasing, as well as analysis and reconciliation of GL accounts and variance reporting.
  • Maintain Accounts Payable and Accounts/ Grants Receivable, including entering and generating invoices, preparing grant reimbursement requests and handling inquiries.
  • Prepare annual operating budget and forecasts with collaboration from departments and leadership team while maintaining current knowledge of state and federal laws governing the control and distribution of public school finances and other sources of finance.
  • Maintain constant awareness of the school’s financial position and act to prevent possible issues.
  • Manage and maintain the school’s financial software systems.
  • Liaise with external auditors for annual audit; manage audit and internal control operations, including development and implementation of financial policies and procedures.
  • Create, review, and analyze timely and detailed reports on financial and budget performance on a monthly and quarterly basis. Create and deliver financial presentations for quarterly board meetings.
  • Manage banking relationships and cash balances.
  • Provide effective management of the assets of the school by promoting internal controls and ensuring proper insurance coverage.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, LICENSURE, AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in school business administration, finance, accounting, or related field.
  • Criminal (fingerprint) background check required for hire.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting software, business principals, and financial analysis.
  • Advanced knowledge of GASB and of GAAP principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of budget preparation and control.
  • Advanced knowledge and super-user of Excel.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and presentation skills.
  • Critical and strategic thinking and problem-solving skills; an analytical mind with good organizational skills.
  • Ability to promote and follow Governance Board policies, school policies, district policies and building and department procedures.
  • Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.

Preferred

  • Master of Business Administration or Certified Public Accountant
  • Experience preparing financials in a governmental entity
  • Experience in vendor management and contract management

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
The Finance and Accounting Manager reports to and is evaluated by CEO. This position supervises the HOPE employees within the operational unit.

  • Occasionally lift objects up to 25 pounds

LOCATION, WORKING ENVIRONMENT, AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is routinely performed in an office environment with moderate noise level. The Finance and Accounting
Manager works primarily at the HOPE Central Office in Englewood, with occasional travel to and between
Learning Sites. Travel is the responsibility of the employee. Compensation for mileage is per the HOPE Mileage policy.

About HOPE Online Learning Academy:
HOPE Online Learning Academy Co-Op provides Colorado students in grades 6-12 an education that includes individualized lessons paired with in-person support from experienced teachers and mentors. Students attend a community-based Learning Site five days a week for the full school day and rotate between online and face-to- face classroom instruction. HOPE is a non-profit, free, public charter school of the Douglas County School
District.
