Finance Specialist

Position Summary: Performs a variety of duties which involve payroll, human resources, basic accounting and bookkeeping principles, including posting to and reconciling accounts, assisting with processing of vouchers and payments, and general accounting filing and recordkeeping.

Major Duties:

  • Assists with maintaining files, including filing of general ledger journal vouchers, accounts payable, accounts receivable documentation, and other miscellaneous filings.
  • Prepares a variety of documents, reports, and records.
  • Keys daily worksheets to the general ledger system.
  • Assists with the processing of invoices and preparation of accounts payable checks.
  • Assists with effectively researching, tracking, and resolving (or properly referring) accounting or documentation problems and discrepancies.
  • Assists Finance Officer as necessary to prepare all required information required to complete the Authority’s annual independent financial audit.
  • Assists with filing and general administrative duties.
  • Assists with the completion of special projects and miscellaneous assignments as required.
  • Other responsibilities as necessary to maintain an effective, efficient work environment.
  • Assists Finance Officer as necessary to ensuring employees understand their benefit coverages. Assists with the administration of retirement and health plans. Responsible for employee verification, unemployment and disability claims.
  • Processes payroll on a bi-weekly basis. This includes maintaining employee records, processing leave requests, calculation of hours and administering all garnishments and withholdings.

Supervision Received: Receives supervision from the Finance Officer

Job Requirements:

  • Graduation from high school and four (4) years of bookkeeping and clerical experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of basic payroll, accounting and bookkeeping procedures.
  • Considerable knowledge regarding the utilization of computers and applicable software (i.e. Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Ability to use a calculator, perform basic arithmetic, and perform routine computer data entry.
  • Ability to serve the public and others in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Ability to learn the procedures and functions of the office to which position is assigned.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, associates, outside agencies and the general public.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $30,000.00 per year
