Job Description
GENERAL STATEMENT OF FUNCTION : The Finance Specialist is responsible for assisting the finance department in managing the college’s budgets, processing the college payroll, and posting financial transactions to the ledgers. This position reports directly to the Assistant Comptroller.

Job Duties
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
General Duties:
  • Adhere to all College policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to State and Federal laws and regulation.
  • Maintain an effective working relationship with college personnel, students and the community.
  • Attend to details and perform at high rate of accuracy.
  • Upgrade skills level and performance through professional development.

Specific Duties:
  • Assist with the maintenance of the annual operating budgets for the Education and General Fund, Auxiliary Fund and Capital Fund.
  • Assist all campuses and departments with processing of budget transfers .
  • Maintain all budget files including a listing of college positions and related budgets.
  • Assist with budget revision throughout the fiscal year.
  • Assist with preparation of the annual Master Budget Request to the state of Mississippi.
  • Maintain documentation of all budget related business processes.
  • Assist with processing of college payrolls.
  • Review and process travel reimbursements for employees and college departments.
  • Prepare invoices for external entities and maintain related accounts receivable balances.
  • Prepare journal vouchers including recording in the college’s ERP system.
  • Prepare check requests as needed.
  • Other duties assigned by the Assistant Comptroller.

Mandatory Qualifications
MANDATORY :
(M1) Associate degree in Business and Office Technology or related field;
(M2) Minimum of two years practical bookkeeping experience;
(M3) Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Windows operating system and ability to work in networked environment;
(M4) Effective written and interpersonal communication skills;
(M5) Excellent organizational skills.

Desirable Qualifications
DESIRABLE :
(D1) Bachelor’s degree;
(D2) Experience working with an enterprise resource planning system (ERP);
(D3) Experience working at a community college or university;
(D4) Experience with the State of MS accounting and procurement system;
(D5) Working knowledge of the State of MS travel policy/rules and regulations.
