Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC), established in 1971, offers a full continuum of evidence based behavioral health and addiction services for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors throughout New Jersey. UBHC’s 1,060 experienced behavioral health professionals and support staff are dedicated to treatment, prevention, and education. UBHC, one of the largest providers of behavioral health care in the country, has a budget of $260 million and has 15 sites throughout New Jersey. Services are readily accessible and include: inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, screening, crisis stabilization, family/caregiver support, community outreach and case management, supportive housing, supported employment, prevention and consultation, employee assistance programs, and a licensed therapeutic school from preschool through high school. Specialty services include the New Jersey suicide prevention helpline and peer help lines for police, veterans, active military, teachers, mothers of special needs children and child protective service workers. In FY2016, UBHC treated 16,199 consumers, had 24,502 admissions, and touched the lives of 19,441 individual callers through peer support. In addition, UBHC is the primary mental health training resource for the New Jersey departments of Human Services, Children and Families, and Corrections, delivering 16,000 trainings each year.

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Financial Assistance Advisor in Finance – Admitting for Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.
Under the direction of the Supervisor, Registration, Financial Assistance Advisor is responsible for the admitting process for the inpatient, partial hospitalization and outpatient programs located on UBHC’s main campus.

- Interviews the patient and/or relatives and assists in the completion of all required forms.
- Obtains necessary demographic and financial information prior to treatment.
- Reviews patient insurance information that was verified prior to patient’s appointment.
- Requests information via written correspondence and telephone inquiries.
- Records data such as income verification and makes copies of relevant income information.
- Responds to patient and clinician inquires related to benefits, registration procedures and billing regulations.
- Maintains close interaction with internal and external customers.

Minimum Education and Experience
- Three (3) years of prior general office/clerical experience, two (2) years of which should be in insurance eligibility verification and admitting processes.

- Must have working knowledge of various insurance plans.
- Must possess excellent communication skills and computer proficiency.

Physical Demands: Frequent prolonged sitting. Ability to speak clearly. Hearing is essential. Lifting up to 20lbs. Extensive reading is required.

Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster upon eligibility and upload proof of same.
