Job Description

The Financial Counselor/Registrar is responsible for the person to person interaction via face-to-face discussions with patients to facilitate the collection of all co-pays and outstanding debt on accounts. The Financial Counselor must meet established productivity and quality guidelines to ensure timely and accurate collection. When assigned to the Emergency Department, the Financial Counselor will facilitate formal ER discharge process by reviewing patient’s history and current registration for accuracy and estimated responsibility prior to patient discharge. Prepares and monitors all payment plans; provides discounts where appropriate. This position serves as backup to registration personnel.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Education / License / Certification:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Medical terminology – successful completion of a class at an accredited institution and/or have working experience

Experience / Skills:

  • 1-2 years of billing and collection functions
  • 1 year of health care experience, preferably in a registration capacity
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally t all patients, visitors, peer and medical staff
  • Good organizational and people skills and the ability to function effectively under stress
  • Proficiency and use of: typing skills 40 wpm, computers, printers, faxes, calculators, various computer programs optical scanners, imprinters and credit card machines
  • Attention to detail and concentration
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, ever-changing environment
