Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Solid Waste Director, this nonexempt position is responsible for performing clerical, financial, and record-keeping duties, answering questions about appropriate loads, inspecting loads and preparing tickets for haulers and entering data into the computer system.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Responsible for billings, deposits, and bookkeeping.
- Inspect loads and write tickets.
- Responsible for posting payments and balancing books.
- Keep office and shop clean.
- Responsible for maintaining landfill books and collection and deposit of fees.
- Maintain safe environment and efficient operation.
- Answer phone and takes messages.
- Work to improve customer service.
- Work with other departments to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
Marginal Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Operate wheel loader, shovel loaders, dozer, and backhoe and other equipment to separate the waste stream into construction, metal, debris, brush, leaves, grass, recyclables, and contaminants.
- Load solid waste onto conveyors, hoppers, or trailers. Push and pack trash with backhoe.
- Direct unloading of solid waste at Transfer Station. Control public traffic and other operators passing near, in, or around work zones.

Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:
High school education or G.E.D.; six months to twelve months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education and/or Experience:
Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two year-college or technical school; or one year to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills:
Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills:
Must possess strong computer skills that at a minimum include Microsoft Office Suite products including Word and Excel.

Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) training
OSHA Hazwoper training
Driver’s license
