Bald Mountain is an open-pit mine with a large estimated mineral resource in the largest private mining land package in the U.S. The mine is located in White Pine County, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world, along the southern extension of the prolific Carlin trend. Bald Mountain and the nearby Round Mountain mine make up Kinross’ Nevada operations.
Bald Mountain is an important contributor to the economy of northeastern Nevada and maintains a comprehensive environmental strategy including wildlife protection, habitat recovery and education.
Job Description
Under the direction of the Finance Superintendents, this position is responsible for managing the fixed asset ledgers and processes for both Round Mountain and Bald Mountain, and related reporting in compliance with Kinross policies, GAAP and IFRS. Assist site accounting team with timely and accurate variance analysis, while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values.
Essential Functions
- Performs month-end, quarter-end, year-end close of site fixed asset ledger.
- Control the addition and deletion processes through monthly meetings and regular communication with capital project managers.
- Prepares journal entries to record re-classes and accruals.
- Record fixed asset additions, deletions and transfers.
- Prepares capital development related journal entries; i.e. capital development, amortization and capitalized depreciation.
- Depreciation entries for Straight Line and UOP assets, with proper analysis of monthly changes.
- Identify and prepare capital lease journal entries.
- Monthly update of the Fixed Asset Master, CIP and Roll Forward files.
- Setup or close capital business units when notified through the AFE system.
- Monthly reconciliation of all fixed asset accounts.
- Timeous capital expenditure commentary and variance explanations on requests from Management.
- Provide information and walk through explanations on request of internal and external auditors.
- Management of the annual fixed asset count process.
- Control of property tax returns and payments.
- Recommends and implements improvements to fixed asset procedures and controls to maximize operational efficiencies.
- Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.
- Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management.
- Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance.
- Works without risk or harm to self and others.
- Punctuality and regular attendance required.
- Performs other related functions as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications and Skill Requirements
- Undergraduate business degree from an accredited University
- Accounting degree preferred.
- 5 – 8 years of related work experience in a mining or continuous process environment.
- General Ledger experience with an integrated ERP/MRP software package coordinating multiple business units and proper allocations.
- Previous experience in the mining industry with a SOX regulated entity is preferred.
- Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
- Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.
- General understanding of open pit mining, heap leach, milling and maintenance operations.
- Working knowledge and skill to intermediate level with P.C. utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software, including Microsoft products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
- Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
- Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills.
- Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis.
- Requires valid driver’s license.
