Job description

The Office of Curriculum in the School of Medicine at the University of Virginia seeks a Medical Education Coordinator to complement the existing Foundations of Medicine (FCM) team. The successful candidate will be highly organized, attentive to detail, self-motivated, and possess the ability to work independently as well as contribute to a high-performing team.

FCM is part of the longitudinal curriculum for MD students (meaning FCM runs all four years the student is in Medical School). The course is led by physician coaches and focuses on helping students develop clinical skills and form their professional identity. FCM is split into three phases, encompassing the science and art of the practice of medicine. FCM-1 helps students develop history taking, relationship building, physical examination, differential diagnosis, and clinical reasoning skills through case-based exercises that are integrated with their morning classes. FCM-1 consists primarily of small group sessions led by physician coaches engaging patients, standardized patients, and simulation exercises to introduce and foster clinical skills. FCM-2 and 3 consist of regular meetings with coaches for 1:1 coaching of clinical skills and professional development as well as FCM group meetings to discuss developmentally critical experiences throughout the third and fourth year of medical school.

The FCM Coordinator will support FCM by participating in the planning, preparation, and implementation of programs, daily operations, and educational activities for FCM. Typical duties include: preparing and disseminating course materials, coordinating and scheduling meetings, purchasing and reconciling expenses, interacting with students and faculty, ensuring compliance with relevant national organizations, providing quality administrative support to program director(s), and maintaining high standards of the program.
