Job Purpose: The purpose of this role is to identify and develop strategic funding opportunities and partnerships to enable the successful delivery of learning solutions, products and services across Save the Children and the wider sector. Working collaboratively with colleagues from across the team you will identify, develop and nurture current and new partnerships to enable the successful growth and sustainability of the HLA’s offer. This will include working to generate both trading income (providing services to other organisations) and awards income.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Oversee to the HLA’s business development pipeline, ensuring we have the right mix of funding to meet our programmatic objectives and identified funding gaps.
  • Support colleagues from across the wider team to identify, build and manage relationships with partners, and identify new opportunities in the market for the HLA’s learning solutions, products and services. In this role you will be responsible for leading the development of new opportunities, often working in collaboration with other colleagues who hold these relationships to develop opportunities together.
  • Manage a portfolio of relationships with existing and/or new strategic partners and donors, with oversight of the wider relationships held at a regional level and across other parts of the team and SCUK.
  • Develop and build strong relationships and collaborative ways of working with key departments across Save the Children I the UK and internationally including fundraising, philanthropy, corporate partnerships.
  • Responsible for pro-actively working across teams to ensure efficient and effective ways of working are developed for the handover and delivery of products and services (both trading and awards)
  • Explore and identify innovative funding mechanisms that allow donors to fund as part of a mutually beneficial arrangement for both the HLA and the donor.
  • Proactively seek out new funding opportunities in line with the implementation of a Go-To-Market Strategy for the HLA’s platforms, products and services, as well as securing new opportunities to raise unrestricted income through trading activity.
  • Identify and pursue new opportunities in both known as well as new markets with colleagues from across the team both at a regional level, across thematic areas as well as affiliates and delivery partners
  • Proactively seek opportunities to represent the HLA to external audiences and in public forums.
  • Ensure new partnerships and new business opportunities are pursued in conjunction with Save the Children internal procedures and in line with fundraising guidelines across the movement.
  • Contribute to effective and timely internal communication as required.
  • Support the ongoing management and monitoring of contracts throughout the project/contract cycle, ensuring the awards and trading management information systems are up to date and that awards and trading contracts are donor compliant and audit ready.
  • Contribute to supporting strong ways of working across the new team, as well as taking individual responsibility for building an inclusive and supportive team culture.

The Skills I Need to Succeed in This Role:

Technical/Personal

  • Passionate about shifting power in the humanitarian system and transforming humanitarian action through capacity strengthening
  • Strong demonstrable experience in institutional/philanthropic fundraising through a variety of donors, with proven ability to generate six figure sums.
  • Ability to develop partnerships from scratch and develop positive impact relationships that lead to funded proposals
  • Experience of developing strategic partnerships as well as developing funding proposals and budgets
  • Experience of partnership and account management with partners, particularly across different sectors; humanitarian, development, private sector and academia
  • Strong understanding of the humanitarian funding environment
  • Ability to work as part of a high performing team as well as working independently to ensure maximum effectiveness and impact
  • Strong representational and communication skills, able to articulate a vision, strategy, or idea clearly and concisely via various communication mechanisms and face to face.
  • Understanding of the international humanitarian system and/or the learning sector
  • Experience presenting information to varied audiences, including formal presentations, chairing meetings and pitching ideas
  • Experience of working with legal agreements contracts and internal processes and procedures
  • Solutions focused: an innovator and natural problem solver, but willing to ask for support when required
  • Flexibility and adaptability with the ability to prioritise and reprioritise as new opportunities and challenges arise: willing and able to take the initiative
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities
  • Ability to create order in a complex situation, and support colleagues to do the same
  • Undeniably positive with high levels of personal resilience and motivation to lead and manage a team
